Hello, newbie here. I have read posts on this forum for about a year, but just registered today lol! Need some help or advice though. I have been on Retin A Micro for about a month and a half. My acne before RAM was moderate, never really had cystic acne, if I did, it was very infrequent. I did not have much of an initial breakout period, which is good. Last week I noticed I had about 4 new pimples, all at the same time. I think they are what would be considered cystic. They are mostly under the skin, large, no whitehead and hurt! I really never had many of them before, I wonder if this could be caused by the RAM? Perhaps part of the initial breakout period? What would cause these to suddenly pop up? The only side effect I really have been experiencing is a bit of flaking in certain areas. Anyone have any ideas, or have similar experience?

I think it could definitely be due to the Retin-A Micro ~ a lot of people say that during the initial breakout, they experience a sudden appearance of types of lesions that they usually never develop (for example, a lot of people say their whiteheads turn into blackheads, or they never had whiteheads, but get a crop field of them).

The thing with Retin-A Micro (as with all retinoids) is that you have to be prepared mentally ~ retinoids usually make you look worse before making you look better. So, the key to fighting that battle is patience and careful observation. Just be sure to give at least 3 months for the medication to take full effect, and also be on the lookout for any possible, long-term irritation that your skin might be experience (i.e. extreme flushing, redness, etc.).
