Just found this site and thought I would give it a try, especially since my dermatologist office is CLOSED and I can't ask any questions today. Excuse my long story, I just need to vent!

I have severe cystic acne (my flare ups are like 2 at a time, but boy are they huge and painful and long lasting). In the past, I had been on Doxy with great success. I had flared up again last year and my dr. put my back on but it didn't work very well that time. She assumed I was building an immunity to it.

This last time I was there she treated me with an injection on the one cyst (she called it a monster) and she then put me on mino. I only stayed on for a week, I was very out of it and dizzy, with small headaches as well. I took myself off it. The injection had helped that monster zit go down, but now, about a month later it is growing again in the same spot. It never died, probably because I stopped taking the mino.

My question is, do you guys think that if I give mino another try that maybe the side effects will subside after a few weeks? Maybe I needed to wait longer? Also, if I haven't taken Doxy in 6 months, is there a chance that might help again? I seemed to tolerate that one better. My doctor is getting impossible to get in contact with today and my next appointment isn't until Feb. So I thought I would turn to this board for advice whistling.gif)

Any words of wisdom? Thank you so much!! Jannah

why not do accutane? i found minocycline worked for a short time, but not so good long term. and taking antibiotics twice a day for years is no good. plus you have to avoid vitamins and dairy when u take the pill so its hard take in the morning and at night cause i take vitamins when i get up and go to bed.

doxycycline is basically the same thing, it was formulated to stay in the body longer than mino.

if ur acne is any kind of a moderate problem then accutane is warranted. if ur derm wont go for it find another. or ask for a low dose course, surely they cant argue with that.

**Thanks for the response! My dr. and I talked about accutane, I was really hoping that would be a last resort solution. I've had some friends that have taken it and the side effects scare me. If it can be managed at all with less severe drug treatments, I'm all for it. That is why she decided on Mino I guess, she felt it would be stronger than Doxy.

if you don't want to go on tane i would definetly go back on the mino. you have to give it time to kick in though. any new drug takes at least 6-8 weeks before you start seeing results. i'm going on two months of mino and seeing small improvements...so you just have to have patience...which sometimes is difficult for me. if you have any more questions don't hesitate to e mail me.
