I'm seriously fucking lost. 2 months ago I had smooth skin, but not I have pits all over my face. I found out a month ago I had blackheads all over my forehead and cheeks, I didn't even notice them though. I could barely see them sticking my face damn near into the mirror. I guess according to my dermatologist I've had them for a while. I had no clue blackheads could cause so much boxcar/icepick scarring!!!! I never picked at them, I didn't even know they were there!!!

Anyone else had this happen? This has caused me to become severely depressed..... I am probably going to seek therapy, it has caused great strain in my social life and mental health.

I've been on retin-a for a month and the blackheads still aren't clear. They seem to have somewhat flattened out the first scars I got, but new ones keep appearing. This shit is driving me nuts!

Sounds like enlarged pores, not scars. Your pores were expanded because oil/debris built up inside them, over time with proper topicals (retin-a, as you are using), they should get smaller.

I've removed a lot of crap from my skin and in the beginning I was very worried. I had all the purple holes in my face, especially around my mouth. Fortunately they do close and lighten in color over time. What you might try is Aloe Vera gel. This is my holy grail of products. The closer you can get to 100% pure the better. It can be drying so mix it with your moisturizer or make your own with Olive Oil like I do. I'm really allergic to Jojoba so this is my solution but be careful, I've heard of some people who can't use Olive oil. Do a small test patch somewhere. But if you use Jojoba that's fine too. If you already have a moisturizer you love just mix some with that. You will be amazed at the results.

I think while enlarged pores from blackheads can eventually lead to those pores being permanently enlarged, I really doubt that applies to you yet. You say just two months ago you couldn't even tell you have blackheads unless you look at yourself close close up. It's only been two months, I certainly don't think whatever damage they've done is irreversible.

For me, after constant and inccessant breakouts of blackheads for over 10 years, I can say it seems my pores have been damaged/ scared/ enlarged, to the point everything I've tried thus far haven't really done much to repair things. But that's after 10 years of not taking care of my skin.

sounds like you're experiencing enlarged pores from the result of your blackheads. i heard the best treatment for blackheads is to use a retinoid. this would include retin-a, avita, tazarac, etc.

you may want to combine an antibacterial agent in your regimen such as benzcylin or clamaycin (i know i spelt these wrong...sorry).

salicyclic acid is an exfoliant they may help too.

i would talk to your dr.

There is something to be said about realistisc expecations.

My pores are messed up too. I'm getting them cleaned up good these days thanks to mandelic acid and other stuff, but I must face up to the fact that they didn't get cleaned up properly for like 10+ years, and now I have to pay the price. It is said the body has an amazing ability to heal itself. Well... it still isn't a miracle worker! Having stuff stuck in your pores enlarging them all the time for years is going to do something to your skin...

Now, if I try to keep them cleaned, slowly, things might get better. But "slowly" is key word. If it took 10 years to damage my skin, then it would really not be bad if it took 10 months to heal to a good degree... provided you take care of the skin! So think long term. How many have burned themselves trying the short route?

So those are my thoughts on the subject. Just providing my own perspective smile.gif

Patience, patience, patience.

I wonder if laser therapy can "fuse" or shrink enlarged pores due to blackheads somehow. I've looked at Fraxel, among other options, but none really even talk about blackheads or treating the aftermath.

That's what I'm going through. I've been on Retin-A for a month which has prevented me from getting zits but not blackheads. I had my first Jessner's peel done On Thurs and I can already see a difference, my pores are a lot smaller.

Isn't the conventional thinking basically that once pores are enlarged, they can never go back to their original size? You may be able to make them appear smaller, but it takes constant maintenance, and structurally, the pores are still enlarged.
