Just wondering what your experiences have been with Trinessa. I started Ortho Tri Cyclen 2 months ago and it has just done wonders with my skin. It looks amazing. My problem is it costs me $100 for three months, which isnt too crazy, but I can get Trinessa for $30 for three months. Is it worth switching to the generic or should I stick with the regular since my results have been unremarkable? eusa_think.gif

I know this is kind of late, but it does not matter what medication it is, the generic HAS to be the exact same as the brand name drug in order to even be marketed and sold. There should be no difference in the way Ortho TriCyclen and TriNessa work for you or anyone else.

Actually the generic does not have to be the exact same. The active ingredient in the medications have ot be the same but the fillers are typically different. That is why people respond differently to brand and generic and even with two different generics.

I have used both tri sprintec and trinessa and got great results on both (I was about to go on acutane). But you have to give the medication a month or two to get into your system, don't write it off if it doesn't work in a week. I know a lot of women have said that the generic brands are awful but everybody is different and they have the same active ingredients which is what is most important.

Hello, I just recently graduated from USMC recruit training and as you would've guessed my face broke out bad there, worse than I've ever had before. The first month we went to the obygn and all got birth control.. I mainly got it for my ance. I was told that trinessa would be the best but it works differently for everyone. I started taking the trinessa the day of graduation (29 July), I take it everyday around the same time and I haven't noticed any changes in my skin tone. I gained weight, but I don't think it's from the birth control... I've been pigging out on sweets and ice cream (sad, I know) But here's something that I've been thinking about... I haven't had my period in three months, could that be a factor to why I don't see any effects? or is it just trinessa... I see a lot of mixed reviews and I could just switch to lo if I wanted... what should I do?

I just went to my dermotologist today 3 months after completing a 4-5 month run with Accutane, my awful skin has returned... I am so sick of dealing with my acne I went back to see what else I could try. I'm 21 and I'm going out more and more & I just want to not think about what people are looking at when they talk to me. My derm recommended Trinessa & said it was her favorite acne clearing birth control. I went home to read up about it and I see almost every post bashing on Trinessa. I got really worried and didn't want to even try if it was just going to make my skin worse. But I think i'm going to try it out because I figure the people who don't like Trinessa are the ones who are going to come on these acne boards and bash it. Yes, the weight gain side effect worries me and the fact that a lot of people are saying it has made their skin worse, but I can't just not try it! I start tomorrow so I will definitely keep updating for anyone who is worried about this type of B.C. I am PRAYING that this works because if the harshest drug out there didn't work for me (Accutane), then I don't know what else I can do

I noticed everyone referring to brand names as "OTC". OTC stands for over the counter... Your birth control is not OTC.

Birth control is very much trial and error. what works for one person may not necessarily work the same way for the next person. although it's good to see how a majority feel about a certain drug does not mean it will have the same effect on you. You should not bash physicians who don't know how your body will react to the hormones. Just go back to your doctor tell them why your not satisfied with this particular brand of birth control and they will switch you until you find the right one for YOUR body!

They are using OTC in reference to Ortho Tri Cycline BCP.

i just wanted to add my voice in on the positive side here. i was prescribed ortho tricyclen at my local planned parenthood when i mentioned acne troubles (yaz never worked for me). i only got actual OTC for the first month, and then i was getting trinessa through my insurance. it worked like a miracle--i'm 22 and have suffered from moderate with some cystic acne for 6 or 7 years now. all that worked before was antibiotics but i didn't like the idea of being on them for years and years, not to mention getting married meant i wanted to ensure no accidents would happen, lol.

anyway, trinessa worked great; my acne is totally gone (just waiting on those stubborn scars now!), i don't have to meticulously wash my face twice a day (i can use face wipes, hallelujah!!) and i don't even have the crazy mood swings like when i tried the patch. i just moved though and my rx changed AGAIN, to tri-sprintec, so i'll do a followup post in a few weeks to see if this works without qualms for me as well. hope this helps someone out there!

oh, and for clarification, i've been on trinessa for just about five months.

I've used Trinessa in the past and it was okay. But I went back on it a month ago and it totally broke me out- pretty badly considering my skin had been mostly clear. I am on Ocella now and it's working a lot better. But, everyone's body and skin will react differently.

Im using trinessa and my skin is clear. I stopped for two weeks and acne came back. Went back on it and instantly cleared. It took like five months for it to work. It makes me moody. But ill take it.
