Just wondering what your experiences have been with Trinessa. I started Ortho Tri Cyclen 2 months ago and it has just done wonders with my skin. It looks amazing. My problem is it costs me $100 for three months, which isnt too crazy, but I can get Trinessa for $30 for three months. Is it worth switching to the generic or should I stick with the regular since my results have been unremarkable? eusa_think.gif

Neither of them worked for my daughter but I understand that Ortho Tri works better than Trinessa. All you can do is try it and see. Did you go on Ortho for your skin to begin with? If that is the case, I wouldn't mess with a sure thing. Unless, of course, your pocketbook can't stand it.

When I put my dd on Ortho a couple of years ago, I did some research. Seems the Triinessa does NOT work as well as the Ortho. Can't remember where I got that information from, I just remember being adament that she took Ortho. A google search would probably help get the info you need. I agree with Boston, if you can afford the Ortho it's better to stick with a sure thing. Switching bcp's often causes IB's until your hormones get use to the new pills.

Trinessa is a generic version of Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Generic medications are cheaper because they do not contain the same amount of ingredients, and they contain a lot of fillers. Generic medication is usually always less effective than their original counter parts. (I'm in nursing school, so we learn about medications) Stick with Ortho Tri Cyclen. It may be more expensive, but it will be worth it if acne really bothers you.

Do you have a Planned Parenthood in your area? I will be getting ortho tri cyclen tomorrow from PP to treat my acne. Since I haven't been working because of my school schedule, I am able to get the Rx for free.

Yes there is one in the area, but I have a fulltime job with ins. so I dont know if they will give me a break. I also see a OBGYN at just a $10 copay so its probably just worth the $33/month. What do you think?

Yeah, I think you won't be able to get it for free since you have insurance and you are currently working. $100 for 3 packs of OTC is a really good price though. I think each one normally costs $50+ depending where you get it.

I went to PP yesterday and was given OTC-LO... its 25mg rather than OTC's 35mg. Hopefully it treats my acne. The nurse said I could come back and get the higher dosage if doesn't give me the results I want.

I have been doing some research and for some LO is enough to help them, hopefully I am one of those ppl. Have you tried OTC-Lo?

I have tried OTC-Lo for 4 or so months and it had no effect on my mild-moderate acne. Not to frighten you because everyone is different. As soon as I started on the regualar OTC I saw major IMPROVEMENT!! I am starting my 2nd week in my 3rd pack and cant wait to keep taking it. I actually just ordered another 90 supply. If I were you I'd give it a month and if you see no improvement the go back to get the regular. I noticed when I was on Lo I had like tiny bumps popping up everywhere. I really didnt like that side-effect. Well good luck to you and let me know if you have any other questions.

I have been off pills for years. I recently decided to get on birth control to control my acne. The pills prescribed to me are Trinessa. After 2 weeks of use my skin has flared up with acne and a few of them are cystic. I have not had a major break out like this in years and I am wondering if it is because of the Trinessa. I wouldn't recommend changing what is working fine for you now. I did however read on another post that the generic version of Yasmin is working wonders for another individuals skin. I am planning on looking into that.

I already have scarring from previous bouts with cystic acne and here I go again. Any suggestions from anyone on cystic acne and scarring would sure be appreciated. Thanks!

I was on Trinessa for about a year and a half and my face was the worst during that time. It seemed that my face would break out the worst the 2nd and 3rd week into my pack of pills and the week of my period. I told my derm and am now taking Yaz. I have only been on it for about 2 weeks but things seem to be looking up. It will take at least 6 months to see the full effects of Yaz though.
I did hear that I could just keep taking the yaz to skip my period for a couple of months so I might do that to avoid any period related breakouts. Has anybody ever skipped their period while on yaz? I was just thinking this could help my skin for a while.

Hmm, your breakout cycle while on Trinessa sounds much too similar to mine. Maybe it is the Trinessa that's breaking me out after all. Looking back I guess it makes sense, I switched from ortho tricyclin to trinessa when I came to college, and my monthly breakouts (a week before and the week during) have been getting progressively worse since then (it's been two and a half years since then, and at this point my PMS, monthly breakouts, and cramping have been the worst they've ever been. Never got this on Ortho!). Guess it's time to change!

How has the Yaz been working out for you? Have you noticed any signs of clearing?

The same thing happened to me earlier this year. I had been on TriNessa for a couple of years and forgot to fill my prescription, so for one month I didn't have any pills. I started up again and my skin went crazy. I'd been relatively clear before that, but for those four months after starting TriNessa again, I felt horrible. I was breaking out CONSTANTLY. I've only just managed to get my skin manageable and I've finally gone to Planned Parenthood for Ortho. I'm positive it's TriNessa that caused my breakouts. It may cost more, but I'm thinking I'll have much more luck with the Ortho.

Yeah that Trinessa is evil or something because it made my skin so darn bad. Regular Ortho never gave me breakouts like I had with Trinessa. I am not on the Yaz anymore because I developed a superficial phlebitis while on it and am not allowed to ever take any type of hormonal birth control ever again which really sucks. Its been about 2 weeks since I have been off birth control and my face is better than it was while on it. (Knock on wood) I really think my bad breakouts were attributed to that stupid Trinessa. Not sure what made me figure it out but every month that I was on it my skin got worse.

I'm in my 2nd pack of Trinessa and experiencing more breakouts than usual. I do think it is the Trinessa, and also that it is a triphasic bc. I think i did much better with the monophasic. Can anybody recommend a good monophasic bc to switch to?? Thanks!

I know this is kind of late, but it does not matter what medication it is, the generic HAS to be the exact same as the brand name drug in order to even be marketed and sold. There should be no difference in the way Ortho TriCyclen and TriNessa work for you or anyone else.

Thank goodness I did research before taking this Trinessa! I recently went to PP to get BC specifically for acne. The nurse game me 1 month of generic Trinessa. I was supposed to start last Sunday but I decided to do some research before taking it. I have concluded that Trinessa is NOT GOOD! I may not know from experience but I have read enough reviews to know that 99.9% of women hated Trinessa. I am going to PP first thing tomorrow to switch to OTC. Since everyone who hated Trinessa recommended OTC lol. Everyone is very diff and will have a diff reaction to a certain brand of BC but I just don't understand why nurses/dermatologists/ins first recommend Trinessa if its so bad? OTC maybe more expensive but at least your getting your money's worth. Anyways, I did more research and found the top 3 main BC for acne prone skin that are FDA approved are: Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Estrostep, and Yaz. Hope this helps!

Just to add to this, Trinessa gave my daughter horrible problems. Ortho-Tri-cyclen was not hepful either. She went on them both to control acne and they just gave her more. Yasmine worked and then she took Yaz with continuedl good results.

I've been reading a lot of bad reviews of TriNessa and Tri Sprintec online. I have used Ortho Tri Cyclen, and then I switched to TriNessa because it was cheaper. I noticed no real change, and my skin was great on both pills. I had no acne on either pill. This was about two years ago. I have not used Tri Sprintec, so I can't attest to its efficacy or its side effects. I just wanted to let any readers out there looking for reviews of TriNessa that there is at least one more person who did not have any problems with it because all I see online are bad reviews.

I started on TriNessa to treat ovarian cysts two weeks ago, about the time I got lazy about my typically religious work-out-eat-well-wash-your-face-nightly regimens. I put on a few pounds and had a pretty unusual breakout, but I figured it was all due to my being out of routine, and being 18. Toward the end of the second week, though, both issues skyrocketed, especially the acne, like I'd never had it before. On top of that I weighed more than I ever had, yet I found myself eating away the stress my acne was giving me. This vicious circle was an absolute nightmare (not to be helped by the extra hormones coursing through my body) and I finally figured that the TriNessa was to blame, just in time for my birthday. My doctor said to give it two months to adjust, but I have prom in two weeks and graduation in three. Needless to say, I won't be touching birth control for a while, and will certainly never go on TriNessa again.

My fear is that switching to Ortho TriCyclen when I give it another shot will only worsen these side effects, any thoughts?

Trinessa did not work for my daughter. Switching to Ortho-tr-cyclen did not help. She got progressively worse and quit after 5 months. Would she have cleared up at 6 months or a year? Who knows. Yasmin worked much better.
