Ok , this is really weird. I have had a few mild pimples since I was at least 10, but nothing major just like three at a time. So when I was around 12, I went to a dermatologist and she perscribed me the topical Clindoxy gel, which is benzyol peroxide. It helped for quite a few years, but since I was young I would miss nights and forget to put it on, so I ended up putting it on 3 times a week .
Then, in grade 10 I decided I wanted to religiously take care of my skin. I started applying it every night. After which, I started getting this weiiiiird acne...it was like the big, sore kind of pimples...but the thing was, it was only on each corner of my chin, and on each side of my cheek, limited to a small area. every where else was clear. The acne in this area was SO inflamed and starting leaving more red marks. The more bp I applied, the drier and worse it got. So I went back to the dermatologist, and he perscribed me differin and this other topical...which basically had a stronger percentage of bp, one to use in the morning and one at night. My acne stayed the same, it did not help these sore, inflamed bumps and dried out my skin severely.
One day, I decided, to hell with it. I stopped everything. And my skin totally cleared...there is no more sore pimples! Just my regular few pimples.
Why would my skin get better AFTER stopping using these heavy creams??
Can someone explain to me why my acne got BETTER after i STOPPED ALL TOPICALS????

Quite a few people find this. Personally it doesn't work for me, for a while I only washed and moisturised my skin but saw no improvement. Although it got no worse than it is when I use topicals.
Anyway, back to your question. I believe this happens because the topicals are causing irritation to the skin, which in turn is causing you to break out.

how long were you using them for? if you used them for less than like 2 months, that could have been an initial breakout, which is why your skin would go back to normal after stopping them
