It's been 4 months and I've faithfully taken 100 MG of doxy 2 times a day. In addition, I've used Differin 0.3 gel every night as well.

What do I end up with? Half-assed results. I'm still getting whiteheads, and while some of you think they're "not a big deal," keep in mind each sucker leaves a redmark on my skin that lasts up to a year...

I'm so frustrated. I have more redmarks than anyone I know, and I thought I could prevent them by stopping my acne in it's tracks, but apparently doxy doesn't do enough for whiteheads.

Where the hell do I go from here? Isn't there something between Doxy and Accutaine?

Tough luck there but if its not working after 4 months, maybe its time to drop it. I have been on a combo of Retin-A and doxy and it worked well for me. Differin will help the red marks so u can apply it on them. Lots of sunblock will also help red marks a lot. As for the pimples, BP or a topical antibiotic will help.

There are other antibiotics you can try after doxy, minocycline and bactrim are the more powerful ones. And if you are a girl, you can consider birth control pills although it didn't do a thing for me. But I think everything will just lead to accutane in the end just like me. doubt.gif

i'm in the same situation as you. i have been on 2 different types of antibiotics for over 6 months now, and my skin is actually worse than it was before.
I'm at the point where i just want accutane because if antibiotics haven't worked, then what will?
Red marks are my problem too; they won't go away, and i'm worried they never will.
Just wanted to empathize and let you know you're not alone

Thanks for the replies everyone.

God I'm frustrated... Even if I start using stronger antibiotics, they seem like a short-term solution to this problem.

As far as the redmarks go, I have yet to use a product that helps it more than 10%. I'm wondering if Eucerin might be a good solution; have you heard of it smckay2?

And for some reason the idea of accutane scares me. I don't know why it just doesn't seem like something people recommend for mildish acne... eusa_boohoo.gif

Doxy didn't work for and I took it twice a day, I'm trying the mino, so we'll see. My Doctor put me on some for a cold one time and it completely cured my entire face for a whole month. Damned if I can't remember which antibiotic is was though. I want some more of that!

Well I'm on accutane and my acne type is also mild-moderate. Your skin seems pretty similar to mine: fair or white, mild-moderate persistant acne and very prone to red marks. For me, the only thing that truly worked for red marks is Retin-A. For some reason, accutane makes my red marks last longer then it usually does. Frustrated, I asked my derm whether I can use Retin-A for the red marks since I know it can help and it really does help a LOT. You might want to trade in differin for Retin-A since they are both retinoids but Retin-A is stronger.

Also you may want to consider changing your cleanser to a non-medicated cleanser. BP seems to worsen some people's red marks around these forums.

Good luck!

I ve been on Doxy for 1.5 month +, it worked a bit in some places, but overall made my skin worse. I got IB, which was extremely surprising and now have to deal with heaps of red marks in the places where i ve never had them before. Now its wearing out already, i strated to get my old acne back, plus i ve problems with my digestive system due to antibiotic. Better to go into accutane straight away than loosing time and health on antibiotics. They only work for a while, if at all. As for me I ll now only consider oral acne medications if my face gets extreme. Dont wanna ruin my health confused.gif

Yeah I know what you mean, certain places it's helped and other places it's done nothing. But accutane... That stuff has weird side effects from arthritis to eye floaters...
