Hey,

I was just wondering how Retin A effects oil production, I want to go on it to control mild acne but also oil, as I have extremely oily skin.

i've been on retin-a for almost 7 weeks and my skin is more oily than it's ever been. i don't know if it takes longer to control oil, but i havnt seen it do so yet

Man that sucks, I've done a lot of research and the main prescription drugs that reduce oil are accutane and retin-a. But after hearing what you say I'm not sure I wan't to try it anymore!

Hmmm...

Ask you doctor about this new product called Clinac BPO 7. It has BP in it and I've never used it but maybe you can do a search on this board on it. It is a prescription and controls oil.

I have tried BP it didn't work too well.....I have just got a tube of topical accutane from my derm, not gonna try it yet though...I'm gonna take my time with it. He said it will definately clear up my skin and clear the grease permanently. No need for anymore antibiotics - I hate them!

i saw my derm. today and asked her about retin-a and oil. she told me that the first few months its normal for oil to increase because the retinoids are pushing all of the oil out of your skin, which is good because its better to be on the surface than underneath, and that over time oil production should slow down a lot

After finally achieving clear skin with Retin A Micro, today actually (12.5 weeks to the day), I can say that your skin stays very oily until about 10-12 weeks into treatment, then suddenly I don't feel like people can see their reflection in my face anymore. It just takes time.

So maybe I should consider using Retin-A after all.....but then there is the problem of using either the Retin-micro or the normal stuff. Apparently the micro gel is alcohol based and will therefore dry out the skin a lot..not a good idea for dehydrated skin like mine....but there is a reduced risk of other irritation because of the time release. Then there is the nomral retin cream, which apparently has pore blocking ingridients, but then again will provide more moisture. Also...could consider an antibiotic to reduce IB?!

EDIT: Retin-A Micro doesn't contain alcohol...I assumed it did...but it doesn't
