I've been on tretinoin (along with doxycycline) for almost two weeks, but I was wondering around what time do people usually start noticing and experiencing the initial breakout thing? And about how long does the initial breakout last? I've heard some people say 3 months for the initial breakout to go away and that scares me. =[

I'm debating whether I should stick with it or not...I mean, I guess I could and it'll be better in the long run. This is just a really depressing time for me. Isn't there something else that doesn't cause initial breakouts?

i would give it a try. i'm 5.5 weeks into tretinoin .05, when i started probably 90% of my pores were clogged with either whiteheads or blackheads. i broke out really bad during weeks 2-4. but now i havnt gotten anyy new pimples in almost a week. and the past few days a lot of my whiteheads have cleared or are really close to the surface. my blackheads are more noticable than ever though so im assuming theyre working their way up. my skin is soo much softer. so overall im happy with the results thus far

I think I'll try to stick with it for at least two more weeks, and see if anything will get better. Someone told me to wash or swipe my face with baking soda+water to control the initial breakout. Would doing this be too irritating/mess with the effectiveness of tretinoin or would it be ok?

ur using an oral anitbiotic so thats good...use a topical anitbiotic as well benzomycin worked great i used taz during the day and benzoymycin during the night and i took a 90mg pill of solodyn (minocycline) worked great and i never had an intial breakout...i alsoused a 6percent bp cleanser and a sulfur mask...sounds like a lot now that i read these boards but i worked amazingly well ...i think all the other stuff made sure i wouldnt get an intial breakout
