I was prescribed Minocycline (Akamin 50) and I googled it and it said you should NOT use retinoids when you are taking it??
http://www.appgonline.com.au/drug.asp?drug...97652&t=cmi

I was also prescribed Differin(which is a topical retinoid right?..lol)

Also I stopped taking mino after a week or so as it made me feel really sick.
Anyone else had this problem??
Did you switch to another anti?? if so what??

Thanks!

It's fine to take Mino and topical retinoids. It is not fine to take Mino and isotretinoin (Accutane). It's better not to take massive doses of vitamin A, either, as that can make one more susceptible to pseudotumor cerebri. It's rare, but it can happen. Thus the warning.

If you got sick while taking Mino, it's likely you wouldn't get sick if you took it with sufficient food and a full glass of water. That's very important. Call your derm and tell her you stopped taking Mino and see what she says; she's the one who will decide what you need next.

Mino is supposed to be taken on an empty stomach, but I also get sick when I take it (very nausiated). I started taking mine with a little food. Beef jerky is the best I've found to cut the sick feeling, just eat you a piece or two.

Yep I should tell my derm I have stopped taking it..lol (I only took it for a week or so), then stopped and began again but felt sick straight away on the 2nd day so stopped again.

On the bottle it says" Take one tablet twice a day IMMEDIATELY AFTER FOOD", which is what I did, and took it with a glass of water and felt sick every time. sad.gif

Trust me i took it with food religiously because if not your going to feel like crap, and i would eat anything with it and it still worked perfectly, but only a matter of time before it stops working because your body becomes resistant to that. It worked for about 7 months for me but when my acne came back it was like 10 times less than before..good luk

oh and i used it with differin gel as well, but i dont think the gel makes a difference!!

yes u can take minocycline with retinoids...the minocycline is to clear ur skin before the retnoid kicks in...and when the retnoid does kick you stop taking the mino so you dont become resistant to it...

if your getting sick from mino ask your doc about solodyn its a slow releasing mino ...so it should be safer
