I'm allergic to Doxycycline so my dermatologist prescribed Zithromax (azithromycin) 250 mg for me. I have to take the Z-pak (5 day course) and then 3 times a week for a month.

Has anyone else used azithromycin before? Does it work for acne? Do you get any side effects or allergic reactions?

I'm scared of taking it. I've heard it's a strong antibiotic.

Azithromycin may work for acne. In comparative study, azithromycin was at least as effective as doxycycline in the treatment of acne. Also, this antibiotic is approved for use and children and is categorized as pregnancy category B. So it is very potent, but quite safe medication.
