I see folks on here recommending a face steam. All you're doing is opening your pores (and then closing them with cold water afterwards). It doesn't remove anything. Isn't that like recommending a person take a shower to remove blackheads?

If you use your face cleanser right after you steam, it can reach further into your pores because the pores are more open.

Facial steaming can be quite irritating. And even though it is commonly thought to open the pores, it doesn't.
Dr. Fulton talks about this in his book Acne RX. Steaming causes the skin cells to swell, which can constrict the pores, trapping bacteria and oil inside. So, steaming isn't really a good idea.

Huh. Thanks for the info. I had been thinking about trying steaming but I think I may give it a miss!

Each persons situation is different b/c I always steam my face with my facial steamer prior to applying a clay mask. It helps bring out the debris to the surface much better for me.
