This is just mostly going to be an incoherent rant I'm afraid, with a couple of questions thrown into the mix. So i'll cut to the chase...

People who like to binge drink, who are off Accutane, how long is it until it's safe that your kidneys have recovered enough so you can drink? (Maybe a lot)

Also, did you gain weight when you were on Accutane? I don't know how to describe myself, I'm very slightly overweight, but I wouldn't at all call myself fat and that's being totally brutally self consciously honest, but I obviously wouldn't want to gain any more!

I'm a young male (21) and I like to go out to bars and clubs and have a good time.. but with acne I don't. Not to be big headed but when I'm clear I have lots of success with girls...

I think it's time for me to finally get on Accutane. I've refused it from two different dermatologists because I didn't think my skin warranted it (and it didn't at the time) copious amounts of Duac cleared it all up...

I'm having a breakout right now which is the worst in a while.. I was totally clear up until about a week ago. It started with an ingrown hair on my chin, don't know what the hell is causing it. My acne is not terribly awful, comparatively, but it's just really annoying! (When isn't it?)

I tried this Azelaic acid stuff... Acne Derm.. which is a 20% Azelaic acne cream. Total waste of time, I believe it's made my acne WORSE over the past week, but who knows. I'd been using Crystacide hydrogen peroxide stuff on some inflamed blackheads which worked really well I slept with it on.. thought everything was OK.

In the past I have used Duac cream which WORKS MIRACLES but I can't really afford it at the moment... I think I'm going to go sell my TV or something this week so I can get some. smile.gif I don't watch the damn thing anyway, it's all BS. I blew all my money on 3 Fraxels (close to $4000) which did very little, maybe softened some scars about 5%

Today I bought some Benzac 5% acne wash.. hope that's going to help but I'm not holding out hope... I like to drink a lot of Alcohol but I haven't been in the last two months (I've been clear for about 4 months prior), so giving that up is going to kind of suck if I go on Accutane but to be honest my skin is the most important thing to me at the moment and I'd gladly give up alcohol if I could be clear long term and not have to worry... which I believe Accutane will do.. but at what price to my health and lifestyle? eusa_think.gif

I am a 'drinker' as well. Not heavy, I dont go out very often, but I enjoy beer and/or some wine most nights of the week. My skin has been bad off and on since I was 14 years old ( I am 31 now). I decided to take Accutane and I have completely given up drinking. The medication is really hard on your liver (if you think about it, so is acetaminophen which is used in a lot of pain killers.)

The decision was easy - give up drinking for a few months and possibly not have to worry about my acne for the rest of my life. I know its hard at 21 and you want to party, but at 21 5 to 6 months should fly by. Think of how happy you would be to have clear skin, and weigh that against having a beer.

The way I am looking at is that I owe my boyfriend about 6 months of being the DD from dinner parties or functions. This is my way of paying him back smile.gif

Also, cutting out alcohol and cleansing out your system might actually help clear the cysts up. It did for me.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

You can enjoy a beer while you're on accutane man. Binge drinking on a weekly base is the grey area.
