im interested as i read it helps the liver deal with endotoxicity, or breaking down any toxins from bacteria or otherwise, that are leaking into the bloodstream.
Its has also been suggested that these toxins could be the cause of some inflammatory diseases.

how much are you taking? are you taking powder or capsules? I'm gonna buy some tomorrow too. If I can't find it, would substituting it with redbull be a good idea?

I would recommend buying them online if you can't find them. Redbull has other side effects you might want to avoid. I have found them in both Vitamin Shoppe and GNC stores.

I'm taking 3 grams a day but that may be too much for long term, supposedly the body stores around 70 grams total, i feel it is unlikely anyone is completly depleted, yet i dont know how much the body can synthesize in a day nor requires in a day, to really know how much is too much and for how long. if it is made from other amino acids perhaps you could reason that you would not make anymore then the intake of the dependant amino acids are available for it to be made from.
my guess is 1000 mg a day is probably fine or even going to be pissed out, 3 grams may be too much for long term use.

Looks good enough and I haven't found fructose or glycose in it.

I don't know if it's the fact that I cut out all sugars (including natural) or that I'm taking taurine, but my skin definitely is less inflammatory.

All i'm doing is watching my diet, and fitness. So i exercise (currently lifting weights 3 times a week) and try to eat whole foods 90% of the time. Getting plenty of water, and sleep always help. I'm taking a few additional sups, cod liver oil, vitamin B tablet, calcium & zinc tablets and a spoon of flax seed oil. I'm eating plenty of chicken, eggs, cheese, beef, fish, all vegetables, spices, coconut oil, oils, oats and i'm limiting rice, potatoes, nuts/seeds, fruits (mostly just banana, and some berries max once a day), 85% cocoa chocolate, raw fruit & nut bars, while mostly avoiding sugar (which includes milk, bread, pop, alcohol, sweets, processed foods/ready made meals/takeaways). I drink mostly water, and have a couple of coffee's a day max, and usually 1 healthy tea. I do allow the occasional treat and can stick with this pretty well, i save the treats for when i go out.
This works pretty well overall. I'm not cured, i doubt i ever will be - but i'm a million miles away from when i started, and this is still working, years later!!! Why they unsticked this i'll never know!

Yeah, i'm in there - but it was one of my earlier posts, before the acne struck back. I got to something like 80% clear, much improved and thought it was totally going to clear, but it never did. Turned out i, like most people tried various cures for things and improved a heck of a lot, but never got totally clear - and then realised that it wasn't leaky gut, candida, high gi, carbs, lack of omega 3, lacking vitamins, or any of the other theories on the forum, it simply turned out to be just a combination of poor health, bad food, bad habits & lifestyle and a build up of toxins/pollutants.
Now, I could eat an almost zero sugar diet and be totally clear with no supplements, like the paleo's, but it's a fairly hard and expensive lifestyle for the majority of us to follow, and i'm not convinced it's safe long-term, the build up of dixons and pcb's is going to be pretty bad, grass fed organic or not, thanks to the polluted world we live in. So i just found a happy balance, i try to eat healthy in proportion without overeating (equal fat/carbs/protein where possible), but am not worried about the odd pizza or burger or pint of cider - as long as i keep doing what i'm doing 90% of the time all is good!
I just drop in now and then to bring taurine back to the top of the forum and report it's still working and i haven't died or anything, as it seems to me a lot of people who find success never come back and tell the new members how they found a cure and show some support!

I think this is by far some of the most useful information I've read - after trying all sorts of stuff on these forums only to have temporary success, I realised that every single time I was clear and broke out again it was when I was consuming sugar or fruit - both containing fructose. I also had all the symptoms such as bloating, gas .etc when consuming fructose - and it should also be noted that my heritage is central european (30-40% have fructose malabsorption) and that I've never seen anybody in my family eat fruit! I guess that statistic is because fruit would die out during the harsh winters. I'm 99% sure this has been the cause of my acne, and if I backtrack every time I had a bad breakout (including when I mysteriously started breaking out), it was due to fructose.
Interestingly enough was the time where I was clear eating predominantely vegies, meat and rice, and then introduced rice bran and broke out (I didn't think it was because of the rice bran) - but it turns out the rice bran has concerntrated prune juice as a sweetener (BASTARDS!)
All backstory aside, I've decided to embark on the FODMAP diet for fructose malabsorption, and here's what I'm doing:
Foods I'm Avoiding - some are because of fructose/fructans, others (like dairy, eggs, peanuts) are because of food intolerances that I've been tested for, or have discovered through trial and error.
Wheat, beer, barley, rye, spelt
Dairy, eggs, soy
Caffeine, coffee, cocoa, chocolate, energy drinks
Fats, peanuts, nuts, saturated fats, ham* *added sugar
Fruit (including tomatoes), wine, honey, citrus
Fructans, onions, carrots, garlic, sorbitol & malitol (chewy),avocados
Sugar, brown, white, honey, molasses, vanilla essence, liquers
Nightshades, Cayenne, Tomatoes
Foods I'm Eating
Macronutrient ratios:
Protein - 25%
Carbs - 55%
Fat - 20%
Oats, doongara long-grain white rice, puffed rice
Chicken, turkey, lean beef, tuna, salmon
Fats are predominantely those occuring naturally in oats and meat, but I use a little bit of dairy-free butter to cook with sometimes.
Condiments include salt, pepper and herbs.
Supplements
Taurine - 2-5g per day (will work my way up)
BioZinc
B-Complex
Probiotics
L-Glutamine
I will continue to be extremely strict for a few weeks and when I'm 95% clear with no active pimples I will attempt to re-introduce some low-fructose fruits such as berries.
I will let you all know how I go! It seems so many members have dissapeared from the boards, and my money is on them getting clear from this thread!
Cheers everybody for this amazing thread and I'll keep you posted.

I haven't eaten any fruit except lemons or much veg for weeks and doesnt seem to have made much difference. I know i can only handle so much fructose and onions, for some reason, but not so sure about fructans. I think fibre is more of a problem for me. Maybe another explanation for your experience with brown rice.
How do you handle oats? I've just stopped eating them because of the slight bloating they cause me.
After one too many binges on vodbulls and jagerbombs i have a serious psychological block with redbull. Also i think taurine is high in sulfites which i think i may be sensitive to. May give it a go anyway and see what happens.
I need to read through this thread when i can be bothered.
Anyone else having success with taurine?

I took so many antibiotics, slathered on so many topicals, went on a round of Accutane, with little success. (All Accutane did was make my hair fall out... still trying to sort that out. :/)
I stumbled upon this thread, did some outside research on the fructose-acne connection, and decided to give it a try.
I've taken 500mg taurine once daily, and what I found is that it lets me "cheat" a little with the sugar and dairy in my diet. (Also, I'm vegetarian, so I figured a taurine supplement would be a good idea.)
Now, three weeks after taking taurine, I'm 100% clear. I had moderate acne (I'm one of the lucky ones!) but now I don't have to worry about it anymore. When I slip up and eat some of the no-nos, I have 5% benzoyl peroxide as a spot treatment.
Even though my breakouts were never too bad, I had really oily and red skin. It was so awful that I caked on foundation day after day and wouldn't leave the house without it. Now, my skin is no longer red, because I don't use harsh chemicals on my face anymore. In the morning, I wash my face with castor oil, in the nighttime, just with water. I put nothing else on it except BP for spot treatments. Redness instantly gone. (Also, I take an omega-3
I have some before/after pics: the before ones don't look too awful because I have so much foundation caked on (I'm the brunette girl in the pics.)
The after pics were taken on my webcam last night (and my webcam is not too forgiving, so I'm psyched!)
