I recently discontinued using accutane; was on it for 2 weeks exactly (40mg/day). It gave me some pretty terrible side effects, mostly debilitating my mental functioning... and because I have finals coming up (and am also a graduate student) could absolutely not afford the set back.

Honestly, my acne is pretty mild (but always there...). I'm going back to my dermatologist in about two weeks and would like to try (yet another) treatment, but am honestly at a loss of what next?

Thus far I have tried Proactiv (six months and lots of non-insured money wasting), tetracycline oral antibiotics (dynasin... er something). This resulted in two yeast infections in one month (sorry boys). Clindamycin and differen topicals (neither resulted in much of an effect).

My targets are my high amount of oil, large pores, and blackheads (which are much, much more numerous from the accutane... will these go away even though I've discontinued treatment?).

I'm concerned with another oral treatment, I seem to be highly sensitive (and unlucky) to adverse effects (maybe I'm just a baby..); But I really would like to figure out a different and effective way to manage my acne now that the accutane is NOT A POSSIBILITY. What's this Spiro? Safer? Does it still carry the same adverse reaction possibilities?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!! cool.gif
