So, I had acne when i was a teen, then about two years ago things got a lot better. I was using Neostrata glycolic oil free wash twice a day and bp at night and my acne improved a ton. Then about two months ago it all went to pot. Lots of pustles and what not. So after trying a variety of products I have started going back to basics, using a gentle Spectro Gel cleanser and bp, and things have calmed down a fair amount. BUT, I have these little white bumps (mostly around my mouth, though a few on my cheeks), that either remain on the skin unchanged for weeks and weeks, or i pick at the them and they get red and irritated. What the hell are these things? I'm thinking about changing my cleanser back to the neostrata (though I thought that was making things worse before) but the Spectro im using now I was alternating with throughout the first half of the summer with great results. I just don't get what is different, and where these bumps are developing from. Nothing, to the best of my knowledge, has changed since prior to the big breakouts around the end of august. Anybody know what these could be?

i don't know what they're called, but i've had them since i was about 8 or 9. never really got a serious breakout from them until recently. they tend to come and go. sometimes they can be popped like blackheads, but if i try to pop them and they don't, they get a little inflamed. i started getting cystic acne in the last year or so, and i've had a problem with those bumps turning into cysts. if you don't have this problem, don't do anything special, but i started preventing them from turning into cysts by using renova. the problem with the renova was that it dried out my skin a little & i just HAVE to wear makeup to cover up the pimples i do have, and makeup looks really bad on dry, inflamed skin, even with a primer or moisturizer. so i started using nixoderm at night, and i haven't had any of them turn into cysts unless i forget to apply it for a few nights in a row.
if your white bumps aren't turning into cysts, the one product i found that got rid of them was clean & clear blackhead clearing scrub. all of them disappeared in a few days. i was amazed! unfortunately, that scrub no longer fits into my regimen
