I just read in the "Info about retinoids and the initial breakout" forum that "BP just irritates the skin and increases barrier damage". My dermatologists prescribed me a benzoyl peroxide wash and tretinoin over a year ago. I tried it at first and found that it irriated my skin too much. I decided to try it again and have been doing so for just over 3 weeks, should I not be using BP with retin-a? Is it ok to use in the mornings only? I don't want to cause permanent or anymore damage to my skin.

I heard BP & retin-a "cancel" each other out, meaning they each deactivate the other one.
So I guess you shouldn't use them together, but alternating should be fine.
Call your derm or even the pharmacy & ask them specifically how you should use the products (both at the same time, alternating, etc).
I use a BP gel in the morning & retin-a at night & don't find it too drying. It's been pretty effective for me. Moisturizing well helps.

My derm gave me a BP facewash 5% to use at night then after told me to apply the retina.. it cleared my skin well.

Benzoyl peroxide negates the effectiveness of most retinoids (i.e., Retin-A, Tazorac) and therefore cannot be used at the same time. To get both benefits, you can use benzoyl peroxide in the morning and the retinoid in the evening. However, Differin (adapalene) has been shown to remain stable and effective when used with benzoyl peroxide (Source: British Journal of Dermatology, Oct. 1998, page 139).

u def can use bp with a retnoid...i used tazorac and bp together with benzomycin and my skins was flawless...
