Ok, i love the tastes of healthy foods and the way they make me feel. for instance, eating lots of veggies, good carbs from starchy veggies, legumes and lots of healthy fats like peanut butter, olive oil, flaxseed, coconut, nuts, seeds, etc i feel clear and my energy feels stable. i dont 'really get cravings for non sweet junk foods like french fries, pizza, etc, etc however i do get strong sugar cravings and sometimes i go on sugar binges on things like cookies, candy, etc. after those i like shit, like im in a haze, my vision gets mildly mildly blurry and i miss the clarity i had prior to the sugar feast. so how can i overcome sugar cravings without binging and what are some good things to eat that will help me do this? i find peanut butter helps but what are some other things?

It sounds like you have my problem, exactly. I eat very healthfully but then I get these strong cravings for sweets like cookies, chocolate, and (soy) icecream. Once I eat these foods it's like I can't stop, the sweetness is addictive and I always end up feeling guilty aftewards.

My advice is what I myself try to do: just keep at it, and they will go away. Someone recommended fruit + water to me as a great way to get rid of sweet cravings, but part of having a craving in the first place is seeing the food as "unattainable" and "bad for you" which for me always greatly increases its appeal.... if you can only realize that having clear skin will feel better than any amount of sugary stuff will, maybe it will at least help keep you motivated.

And FYI when I started eating a lot more fat - nuts, oils, avocados, etc - my cravings for sweet stuff greatly decreased. Not disappeared, but decreased, until they're at a point now where they're manageable. I think it probably does have something to do with keeping the blood sugar stable, but I'm not a doctor and I don't know.

yeah thats why peanut butter has been helping. im trying to eat it more bc it helps stop my cravings, really keeps me satisfied and gives me nice, stable energy and doesn't break me out.

i read that chromium can help inhibit sugar cravings but i don't know what some good food sources are.

Why not make an applecider vinegar thing with water and dump in some stevia powder? It's pretty sweet.

Eat fat and protein. Lots of it. Animal sources are best.

I have two bits of advice, I can totally relate to what you're saying

1. Banana and medjool date smoothie is so lovely and sweet and curbs my sugar cravings (blend one banana with three medjool dates and half a pint of water)
2. best of all, raw chocolate has no sugar in it and has all the wonder and delight of chocolate without the bad stuff

you can get it at detoxyourworld.com but it's pricey!

you can also get raw choc powder there which you can add to a banana smoothie for a lovely chocolate shake

Peanut butter is high in iodine which is an acne trigger. It can cause a lot of pimples even if you only eat it once. I would recommend avoiding peanut butter if you are acne prone. Unfortunately, I havent found anything that helps with my sugar cravings. Thats the problem sad.gif

If I woke up with more acne, and I knew the previous day I hasn't done evrything in my power to not wake up with acne, I would hate myself.

It's because everyone seems to think raw vegan food will cure their acne and end up being hungry and loosing weight so I just have to repeat this in every thread. And it works very well for me.

When I get a sugar craving I find that a handful of raisins helps as they're quite sweet. Or else hot water with lemon, fresh ginger and manuka honey.

i eat lots of peanut butter and it doesn't break me out. however if i eat something sugary like a baked good or anything really sweet, i can feel the pimples forming on my face within a few hours. i get this weird itchy feeling and i can see little bumps under the surface.

I'm never hungry and my weight has stabilised. Infact, my love of nuts and raw chocolate will probably see my weight increase and what a fantastic way to do it!

Sugar is fun to eat now and then, but when I'm at home I try to avoid sugar and do so by having tasty alternatives.

One that I LOVE and that totally satisfies me is Chocolate Cherry Ice Cream. This is a favorite among people at the Eat to Live boards. It really is a life saver if you're trying to avoid sugar, and it's *very* rich and satisfying.

Chocolate Cherry Ice Cream:
--one bag of frozen cherries
--a heaping tablespoon and a half of cocoa (or 2)
--a teaspoon of vanilla (can be omitted if using vanilla soymilk)
--about half a cup of almond milk or vanilla soymilk (Unsweetened Westsoy brand)
--dates (1 or 2) can be added for sweetness
--Blend (add more milk if necessary to blend)

Here are a couple other recipes that are good as well:

Peaches and Cream Cobbler:
• ½ bag frozen peaches
• About ¼ cup cashews (for more creaminess, add more)
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 2 teaspoons cinnamon (or more)
• Enough soy or almond milk to blend
• Top with diced fresh peaches and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Chocolate Fudge and Fruit:
• 2 teaspoons macadamia nut butter (or cashew or almond butter)
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1-2 teaspoons cocoa powder
• Enough soy or almond milk for desired consistency (can be blended with dates for added sweetness)
• Heat in microwave and stir
• Add cut up bananas and berries (frozen can be used if thawed a little) to mixture.
