Hey, I am 21 and have had acne since i was in 6th grade i think. It has changed alot over the years and right now it seems like i am left mainly with very little tiny ones that are under the surface of my skin and blackheads. I have tried almost every topical cream out there except for proactive. the deal is that the topical stuff works for a while then stops working cause i get immune to it. the same thing has happend with antibiotics. i started on doxycyclin and that stuff workd like a charm for a while and then after it stopped working it seemd like it was worse than before. then i went on minocyclin, that worked alright then stopped working after a hile. i have seen many different dermatoligists and the last one said that there is really nothing left that i can do other than ACCUTANE. which i absolutely do not want to take because of nasty side affects. So i have decided to try natural stuff like accupuncture and herbs. i have been going to an acuppuncturist/nutritionist for 6 weeks. they said that there methods can work it just takes time. i have seen some very small change, on my forehead it seems like it has calmed down a little. there is no way i am going on accutane. the last thing i was prescribed was solodyn, which is some form of minocyclin. i have not tried that stuff yet cause i wanna give the natural stuff a shot for a while first. I am in college where there are hundreds of beautiful women that i wanna talk to but cant because of this rediculous CRAP. someone please help me!!!

Accutane is not that bad. I have taken it twice and some of the side effects are bothersome at worst. I know some people have worse experiences, but not everyone does. My lips were really dry and my joints hurt occasionally (the pain is equal to if you had been sitting in one position for a while - youère a bit stiff when you get up- not that bad). And for the improvement I saw in my skin, it was totally worth it.

I was also on accutane twice, it worked for my non-blackhead acne. (ie. I don't have whiteheads, cysts etc anymore. While I used to have 30-40 on my face). That said, my blackheads are slightly different than most people, it's more like oil plugs than dark blackheads.

Anyways, yeah accutane sucked for the first month and after that it was fine. A bit red, some dry skin but way better than acne.

If you have tried all 32 flavors of acne treatment you should go on tane. You don't want your skin to go through this, the quicker you get through it the better. When you finish your course your skin might be entirely managable. Up to you.
