I went to my dermatologist and told her the doxycycline she perscribed me isn't working any more after 6-7 months of perfectly clear skin....

I asked about and was hoping she would perscribe me on ACCUTANE. She said she wouldn't put me on ACCUTANE until nothing else works for me since my acne is not severe.

She prescribed me SOLODYN (MINOCYCLINE).

Has anyone else tried this???? Or is currently taking this medicine??? If so did it work for you???

What is your opinion on this medicine?

I really hope this stuff works.

Thanks Karyn

Of the tetracyclines, it is the most powerful anti-inflammatory - They use it for people with rheumatoid arthritis.

If your acne is not severe, just use the minocycline. TaKe it on time everyday. And use a topical, like benzyol peroxide to layer your face for added protection.

I was on Tetracyclines for two years. My dermatologist eventually changed my prescription from doxycycline to minocycline and I was on that for about a year. My dermatologist would tell me to take it twice a day (100 mg's I believe) and then my skin would clear up, I'd go back to him, he lowered my dosage to once a day (at 100 mg's) and then I'd break out again. My dermatologist finally gave up and wrote me a prescription for Nicomide. I've been on that for about a month and it really seems to be working. Before you go to Accutane, ask your dermatologist about Nicomide. It's just a vitamin supplement; it's a mixture of Nicotinamide, Copper, Zinc Oxide, and Folic Acid. I think the only really common side effect is nausea. One of the side effects of Accutane is depression...

Erm...I sound like a commercial, I know. But I really don't think you should be prescribed Accutane if your acne isn't that severe.

yeh i used it worked like a charm...

i used a 6 percent bp cleanser

solodyn

benzomycin

and tazorac

worked really fast and when it did start working my doc cut the pills to everyother day

and when i was clear the doc cutoff the pills

i think the pills were just there to clear me up, and when the topicals got rolling i could get myself off the pills....remember the pills are only for the fast short term...then the topicals are for longterm...ur become resistant to orals if u keep on them and they def have worse side effects so you want to get off them (didnt experience side effects with solodyn for the time i used them)

Solodyn is the first antibiotic formulated to specifically treat inflammatory acne. It is basically a time released version of minocycline. Its effects on cysts, however, may be questionable according to the drug info. But it should help get rid of inflammed pustules and papules.

I've been using Minocycline for about 8 months, and it took like 3 months to start working. I was taking it 1 time a day, but now I take it twice which has helped a lot. I also switched my birth control to YAZ which helps a ton with acne. My skin has cleared up a lot, still not perfect, but Minocycline definitely helped me. Keep in mind, what works for one person may not work for you.

Good luck!

I've been taking Solodyn 90 for the past couple of weeks with Duac and Differin. It's working pretty well, my acne has gone down a lot. I'm also using the Panoxyl 10% bar morning and night. It dries me out a little, but after using a light moisturizer it's a ton better than having a super oily face all day.

Accutane is some pretty intense stuff so give the Solodyn some time, use the right cleanser and you should be fine. I'll keep you posted on how my stuff is working out!

P.S. I just got a prescription today for Nicomide pills so I'll let you know how that works too. My derm told me it's pretty effective especially when used with Solodyn.

hey,ive been on mino for 3 months so far,the first month was just 100mg a day and now ive gone up 2 100mg x 2 a day, and to be honest my skin seems to be getting worse! its a bit odd though because the areas of my skin that were clear before are getting even clearer and more even toned but the problem areas are getting more inflamed confused.gif i dont know if this is ' the breakout ' but its sooo frustrating! i dont whether to carry on with it to see if there are any improvements or to go to my docs and change to another antibiotic

I've been taking Minocycline twice daily at 100mg for just over three weeks, along with Clindoxyl&Differen gels. I've noticed a little bit of a difference, but my doctor told me it would be at least six weeks before I see anything drastic.
I'll keep you posted on my progress.

A year ago I had a break out so my DR. Prescribed me Minocyclne. It knocked out my facial and body acne in about a month. My skin was so clear and smooth:) four months ago my acne returned:( my doctor prescribed me doxy and it was a no go....then Solydyne still a no go. So we decided to go with Accutane. I am on my 3rd day of Accutane. Minocycline worked great for me the first time but didn't seem to work the secount time around. Hope this Accutane stuff works!

I took solodyn for 6 months (100 mg/day), along with Ziana (retin-a) & Duac (bp) & saw little to no improvement. Hope it works for you!
