About 4/5 months ago, my derm. placed me on 100mg of Minocycline/day, as well as Nicomide supplements. At the beginning of my course, it got worse. After a couple of weeks, it started to get slightly better, but after this, my skin went no where. I had no positive result, but continued in hopes if it eventually clearning my skin. About 2 weeks ago, i ran out of Mino, and decided to just not get a refill. I did not see the point in continuing this treatment when it was doing nothing for me. My skin got a bit worse after discontinuing the antibiotics, but it's beginning to die down. My derm does not know I stopped, so next time I go I have to tell him; i know he's not going to be happy.

Now what? I've tried everything there is to try: proactive, murad, benzoyl p., antibiotics, supplements, home remedies, glycolic acid, and the list goes on. I've had bad skin for about 6 years now, so I obviously feel hopeless.

I'm just wondering what my derm. is going to do when i go back. I've come to the point that I just want to be put on accutane and get it over with; however, i doubt my derm is gonna agree with me. What do you think? should i try and convice him? I'm so exhausted and just want something that's going to work, and accutane seems like the only thing with almost guaranteed results.

Advice, please; i'm tired!!

Ya I only have mild/moderate acne; never had any cysts. the problem is i've had it for 6 years and tried so many things. I've been put on topicals before and nothing has worked. I've even tried retin-a micro, BP, glycolic acid, benzamycin, and the most i've gotten is dry skin. I Just don't know what else there is to try, and wonder why the derm. can't put me on accutane. i haven't talked to him yet but i have a feeling he's not going to agree with me. I mean all i would need is a low dosage right? since it's only mild/moderate acne. I've just heard so many great things about accutane and want to be one of those people with great success stories. I'm just very frustrated at this point and need to do something that's going to actually work. I know i'm venting but i need this lol. If anyone is in the same boat as me or has any advice i would highly appreciate it thanks!

Ya it's inflamed papules all over. and pretty bad blackheads on my nose. It's also on my back, so I mean I really think next time i go to the derm i'm gonna talk to him about it. I do think just a low dosage would do it, and low dosages have little side effects; so willing to deal with it.

it's strange why some derms are all uptight about accutane. my derm said it cures 90% of patients and it's especially good for people with cystic and inflammed acne.

100mg of mino is not enough. it should be double that and used with a strong topical like benzamycin gel. also if you're female you should be on something like spiro.

can you ask to ramp up the mino and get a topical in there too?

I did the same thing. I quite taking minocycline and told him after the fact. Maybe its just not the right antibiotic for you. Maybe you could try a different one

so i've been off mino. for aaarrooound 3 weeks now. my skin is still bad. i'm getting a lot of whiteheads that i never used to get while taking it, like these whiteheads under my eyebrows; what is that?! i'm getting one on the same spot on each brow. it's really strange and they hurt like a mother. but i't still resistant to going back on the antibiotics. i think it's a big waste of time. still haven't gone to the derm to ask about accutane, but hopefully will soon.

Smckay,

I've had the same experience as you. I have tried Mino/Doxy which would only work for about 2 weeks and then I would become resistant. I was about to go on accutane when I went to a new doctor and got prescribed Bactrim, which is another antibiotic. I've been on it for about 3 months and I'm still pretty clear. My body acne is completely gone but I still get a few tiny ones now and then on my face due to it being so oily. I would definitely ask the doctor for this before trying accutane.

smckay, i know how you feel, iv just come off minocycline due to an inflamed brain (i know, dangerous huh, its a side effect on mino)

and iv been placed on erythromycin (a non tetracycline based antibiotic) and i have to say i love the stuff.

Iv been wanting these for ages, due to my friend has near-cystic acne, and erythromycin cleared him up 100% )he still takes them to stay clear)

but the 3 days iv been on erythro, my skin has cleared up loads smile.gif my cheeks are clear, forhead is nearly clear (it was a mess) and my whole compexion (not including spots, just my skin in general) looks fantastic.

my skin was coarse and odd looking, now its smooth, and glowing.

my friend said it could be down to the GA treatment, and differin combo, but iv only started noticing these changes after starting erythromycin biggrin.gif

you should try it, great stuff smile.gif

i read your post because i'm currently taking minocyclin 2x a day 100mg. i've had acne for too long...my list is as about as long as yours for all the things i've tried.

if i start breaking out should i stop and ask the dr for accutane? i mean, i just can't take this anymore and i'm willing to deal with the side effects of accutane. it seems like so many people say you should just go on it get it over with. i don't think i'm willing to try another antibiotic if this one doesn't work.

what do you think? let me know how things turn out for you.

Well I've been on doxy for about 4 weeks, and my skin looks horrible. bottom line is antibiotics made my skin worse.

I go back tomorrow to see my derm and i'm reaaally hoping for accutane. If he doesn't, then i'm going somewhere else. He did tell me, however, that the antibiotics are the last try before going to accutane. So let's hope he keeps to his word
