Hi:
I'm currently using Vivant's 15% mandelic acid on my nose for blackheads and scarred pores. I've been using it once daily for around a month. The first couple of weeks I feel a slight sting when I apply it, but these days, I almost feel nothing. Do you find that's normal? Does that actually mean your skin has developed a tolerance to it? Like many things I put on my face I'm not sure if it's actually doing anything after a while.

I think it probably means your skin has adjusted to it - doesn't necessarily mean its not working. Has it helped your blackheads or pores at all? If it has been helping and you are no longer getting stinging or irritation from it, then maybe try it twice a day and see if that does anything? That's pretty strong stuff too - I've used it myself.

yes, I believe your skin does adjust to it ... but as Willow said, that doesn't mean it isn't still working.

i worked up from 10% once daily all the way to 15% twice daily, enough to keep me 100% with a oil control moisteriser on top as i still get slight peeling. But thats what its supposed to do i guess. I peeled a lot to begin with so yes i did develop a tolerence.

I know this is a pretty old topic but its something I'd love to find out a bit more on...
Been using mandelic for two weeks now, and god, it's AMAZING!!! Truly truly incredible, my skin just looks better every morning now- the purging has finished.
I just wanted to see whether people have developed a tolerance/resistance to mandelic. Has it ever just stopped working or lost its effectiveness? Because I'm terrified it'll happen to me. It usually does with products I use.
What's everyone elses experience been with it?

Tolerance, yes, in that my skin doesn't get irritated when I use it.
Resistance, no .... it's still quite effective!

I've been using 15% mandelic acid for a few weeks now, no peeling or irritation. Regarding tolerance effectiveness wise, it's hard to say, but I think it has lost some of its effectiveness compared to the very first week I used it, but it's still effective. For the last couple of weeks, I've been testing out "ZAPZYT 10% Benzoyl Peroxide" in place of the mandelic acid, and I must say it's been as effective, if not more, than the acid in dealing with blackheads. Not sure if my body will develop a tolerance to it though, but one big thing going for it is it's a lot cheaper than mandelic acid.

I've been om MA for over a month now.
The first two weeks, good improvements... but after that, things've been going very slowly. I wouldn't neccesarily say the product has lost some effectiveness (though it might have, I can't really tell), but rather, you have to realize that at a certain point, things might become difficult to heal. In other words, it might not be the product losing effectiveness, but your skin having reached a threshold where more healing is difficult, or a combination of those two.

Yeah, I'm wondering if I'm hitting that now- it seems to be healing slower now. But still feel happy every time I take off my foundation rather than wanting to cry
My main concern is just that the moderate acne I had before I went on this fantastic stuff doesn't return and that the mandelic helps keep my skin clear long-term! I really hope so!
