I am a 44 y/o man who has suffered with, what I consider, severe acne of the face, back and neck since the age of 12. Forgive my vanity, but I look extremely young for my age which I attribute to genetics and my VERY oily skin. If there is any redeeming factor of my oily skin it's that I'm often mistaken for being in my late twenties. I visited a dermatologist, not for my acne, which I had given up curing at 44, but for some age spots on my face and he has recommended Levulan. As an afterthought he mentioned it may help with my acne which lead me to this board. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I have concerns that the very treatment that may cure my acne may also cause me to lose my youthful appearance. Will Levulan cause the sebaceous glands to dry so much that I may begin to look my age? Am I vain or what? You may begin attacking me......now.
P.S.-Thanks in advance for any responses
Will Levulan cause me to lose youthful appearance?

I did a leluvan treatment last year, it was supposed to shrink the glands which produce oil ... it might have, but I can no longer tell. I had such a miserable post-treatment that I never went back for more. The doctor didnt warn me to stay away from any form of UV for 48hrs after treatment - this means stay completely inside, and in your basement away from any windows. Without UV, your skin stays cool and very minor flushing. Upon UV exposure, it will be the worst burn you've ever experienced. And it stays crusty, blistering & peeling for 5 days, and very red for 10days.
Anyhow, my pores remain large, brown spots didnt fade, skin still rather oily. But it was only one miserable treatment.
