Okay this is a little test I'm doing with this (prescription) ointment I have at my house. It isn't meant for acne but it is an antibacterial cream. It is called Bactroban (made by GSK).

I noticed two pimples forming on my forhead. They looked about the same size so i decided to do a little experiment. I put benzaclin (5% BP) on one and Bactroban on the other. The next day the BP one was swelling up (forming like a pimple usually does), while the Bactroban one was just slightly raised (the same size it was when i applied the cream). I applied it again the next day and it is almost completely gone (just a little redish mark).

I noticed that it works best on pimples that are just forming. I put it on some that were just about to expose their "head" and it seemed to speed up the process so the next day the pimple came to a head.

I only use this on forming pimples and I will keep you guys and gals updated on my progress!

PS i don't know what the ointment is prescribed for, so i don't know how you can get it unless you ask a doctor.

Thanks for reading

Hi. Its used for minor skin irrations and I too have used the cream on my face but onlyapplied it to pimples after they've been popped and it definitely helps the healing process. I am trying not to squeeze any new blemishes and yes thats hard ...but thankgoodness Im on Accutane and barely get any marks now.

Please don't use Bactroban. It's one of the topical antibiotics that effectively treats methicillin resistant staph aureus of the nares and of wounds. That's one of those 'antibiotic resistant super bugs' you hear about in the news.

If you apply Bactroban to the regular bacteria on your skin (and yes, there is staph aureus on your skin), you could end up making it resistant to bactroban, thus perpetuating a vicious cycle of improving bacteria against antibiotics.

Please only use polysporin or neosporin as an antibiotic ointment for your pimples. They are far more commonly used for pimples and other wounds but are not a last ditch treatment for MRSA of the nares and other wounds.

I was worried about that wynne thanks... now I won't use it anymore which is no biggy because I started not liking it too much.

I have a question totally unrelated to the topic: I was wondering if anyone knew a good cleanser for sensitive skin that doesn't dry you out? (I tried dove but it is incredibly drying)

Thanks

EDIT: Cleanser OR way of cleansing

I like Cetaphil Sensitive Skin Antibacterial Bar. It is cleansing and not drying. I really like it. smile.gif Oh, and using warm rather than hot water is also not drying nor as irritating to the skin. A final cold water rinse is good, too.

Thanks Wynne! smile.gif

Sorry two more questions...

Would the plain cetaphil work?
I wash with cool water, is warm better?

Thanks
