i've been on mino for over a year, i started clearing almost right away over the course of 2 months and now i'm crystal clear! i use it in conjunction with spirolactone, diane 35 and benzamycin gel at night. I am really impressed with mino tho i can't drink anymore and my tummy has problems occasionally :/ but its a price you gotta pay i guess

Been on Minocycline for around 3 months now, and it's done NOTHING! i am soo disappointed because i had high hopes. my skin as of right now actually looks a lot worse than it usually does, and is extremely oily.

This is just me, though, and everyone reacts differently. For instance, my roommate is on the same thing as me and it works wonders for her. As for me, does absolutely nothing; i don't even have any side effects! it's as if i'm taking a placebo.

Keep it up though for at least a few months and then you'll know whether or not it's working. Good luck with yours!

honestly hasnt done anythn 2 me ether:S i also tuk it for three months. i read tho that if antibiotics dont work. thts xactly wen you noe u must turn to accutane. i thnk thts wat il do:D gl 2 me. and whoever else will start accutane

I know this is a little late but I took mino for about 2 weeks in september, and it was the worst medicine ive ever taken. I dont have extremely bad acne, but I wanted to get rid of it all together so my retarded derm told me to take this. he never told me of the side efects (feeling stupid and dizzy, and an extremely sensitive face). I got pimples on areas of my face where i never did before. I heard that antibiotics can do that, they push all the bacteria out, but my derm said thats not true. but then again hes an asshole. good luck to everyone using mino, it didnt work for me. does any one know if i can sell these scrips (legally)? I have a nearly full bottle (76) of the mino and a full tube of differin.

I only used Minocycline for a few days

and honestly
my skin WAS looking better
I was SO excited

unfortunately the week I broke out into a mass of hives
and started bleeding profusely out my nose
...
the exact same reaction (albeit a little delayed) I get due to my severe Penicillin allergy

so my doctor switched me to tetracycline
Turns out I'm allergic to that too

so I got switched to Ery-Tab
not allergic...
just doesn't work
sad.gif

needless to say I've stopped with the antibiotics

Good luck to you though

To all those who are lovin the Minocycline (I am so far!!!) how long would you be willing to stay on it? I've been on it for about a month and I start uni in March, and I seriously do not want to stop before then and risk a mass breakout. Idk how to get my derm to let me stay on it for as long as I need though....

Also, how long have any of you been on topical antibiotics for? I'm using Clindamycin in conjunction with Minocycline, but I'm not sure how long people are usually supposed to stay on topicals.

For those using minocyclin, what type of acne do you have?

I have mild but persistent acne. Meaning I don't get a lot, but it tends to stick around for a while and I get red marks after every spot.

When I saw my derm I was having the worst breakout of my life, but probably still mild. Idk, I've heard that antibiotics shouldn't be prescribed for anyone who doesn't have severe acne, but I wasn't about to argue with my derm.

i started taking minocyclin on thursday night (today is monday)...since then, i've been depressed/dizzy/lightheaded/sleepless and have had really bad headaches. i was supposed to take 100mg 2x a day, but decided (after my first dose on thursday night) to take 100mgs a day and see if the dizzy feeling would go away. then the headaches came...last night i woke up around 2am with the worst headache ever...i couldn't sleep and started crying it was so bad...my husband felt so bad...he didn't know what to do, so he massaged my neck and back and the pain/pressure subsided a bit. i decided today (after reading the reviews on this site) to take myself off of this med. i wish i had come here before i started taking it b/c if i had, i NEVER would have taken this medication...NEVER! i'm so sorry i ever took it. clear skin is not worth all of the possible side effects. oh, and my vision has also been kind of blurry...

does anyone know how long it takes for these side effects to subside once you stop the meds?

To those of you that didn't see results with Minocycline or didn't like it, I'm sorry that it didn't turn out to be your cup of tea. I had mild yet persistent acne as well when I took it and had beautiful results. As I mentioned in Boston's other post, I did have a few nagging headaches and some ringing in the ears but it wasn't anything I couldn't tolerate. I was on it for 6 months at a time...both times. In between those 2 times, I was clear for 5 years and was clear for another 5 after my last 6-month round. Staying on it too long(whatever that may be)can ruin your teeth. I, too, was scared when I was coming off of it and both times!! I believe my acne came back after year-5 because I had become pregnant with our sons and my hormones were totally screwed.

To those of you on it and loving it, I recommend sticking with it. If you are seeing results, it only gets better, seriously. I had never felt so beautiful than after using it and seeing really great results!

As opposed to severe acne, I agree. Most likely wouldn't treat severe acne but it worked great for my stubborn acne.

i've been on my topical for like 10 years! it hasn't hurt my face in fact my skin looks great, no wrinkles, dryness or thinning or redness. and as for mino, hell i'll stay on it until i'm damn well ready to come off it lol no time soon! i'm in no rush i don't mind long term.

Ive been on minocycline for about 14 months or so now and it's been working great but over the past few weeks ive had a few pimples (as one disappears another one develops), and in the past 5 or 6 days ive had more pimples than ever before on minocycline (about 6 or 7 at the moment).

It may be a delayed breakout caused by a moisturizer i started using (it coincided with the first of the pimples appearing a few weeks ago) and the oil from the daily application of the moisturizer has gradually built up and caused a breakout. However i stopped using it about 5 days ago and there hasnt been any improvements.

Alternatively it could be me becoming immune to minocycline. So i guess i have 2 questions:

1) is it possible to have a delayed breakout from a moisturizer and would it still continue 5 days after stopping the moisturizer?

2) from experience, does becoming immune to minocycline happen suddenly i.e within 3 or 4 days u have lots of pimples, or is it a gradual thing over a few weeks? In which case ive probably become immune and need to change to doxycycline or something.

Thanks..
