I just started about 5 days ago. I have high hopes for it.. but does anyone know 1) how long it takes for it to start working usually and 2) do you have an initial breakout because my skin is looking not-so-great since I started it.. thanks

hey! i just started minocycline as well (8/13), i asked my college doctor to perscribe it for me until i could get to the derm (october 4th was the soonest i could get in, rediculous, i hope to start a second round of accutane, 10 years in the making) i did some research online and picked it, basically because i've used everything else. i feel kind of dizzy and foggy like walking into things, but not sleepy. i'm taking 100mg twice a day, what are you taking? do you feel any side effects? have you used anything else? i've had a few more breakouts since monday but that's just everything coming out, i think, i hope anyway - october is a long way away. keep with it bc anti-b's take 8ish weeks to work...
a lot of people on this website use SA face wash and BP spot treatment, dan's regimen, if you're not already doing something topical i recommend that.
keep us posted on your progess and good luck eusa_pray.gif

no you're not alone smile.gif in fact i have the same script as you... i had to work today so i didn't take it this morning because i feel like i'm drunk and that doesn't look professional lol anyway, i didn't feel too dizzy today and i wasn't nearly as foggy as i have been the rest of the week. i wonder if taking 100mg once a day is enough? i've seen some people on here only take one 100mg pill a day, i know everyone is different but i'd be curious to know the effectiveness. is there anything you do to make the dizziness better? is it worse standing up? do you get dizzy at all sitting down or laying down? i drink tons of water but that doesn't seem to help. advil really helps with the headaches.

i've been on 100mg/day for about 2 months now, and sadly enough, it really hasn't done much in the way of clearing my skin. i'm also taking nicomide. i'm really irritated that nothing's working, so i think i'm going to go back to the derm soon and have him give me the strongest thing he's got (which is most likely accutane). my skin's not terrible, but still, it's a pain. my friend just gave me some retin-a-micro the other day, so i cringe with hope that this works.

BUT my roommate is on the same dosage of minocycline as i am, and it works for her! so it's different for everyone. don't lose hope because different people react to different things.
As far as side effects, i've noticed that if i don't drink enough water with it, i get bad stomach pains. so just make sure to drink a whole glass of water to avoid that.

Good luck with yours and hope it works!

IMO, antibiotics won't really help, it may for some people, but I think it's just not very effective against acne. All it does is kill the bacteria under the skin, but that doesn't mean it's going to make the pimples and such go away, there is still the residue left on the skin.

my skin is just discusting sad.gif any positive results yet xxxxxxx? my dizziness went away, but my face looks like it hurts and it does, it's mostly on my cheeks, and i feel bad for people that have to look at me. i got 2 more on my chest and my back is the same... october can't come soon enough!!! does anyone know if there is a message board on here for doctor reviews? like experiences with derms in their area? i've had some of the worst derms that i actually called the insurance company and told them they were terrible and they shouldn't be covered in their plan lol bitchy i know but i HATE waiting forever in the waiting rooms just so they can see you for 2 seconds and perscribe you something you already took that didn't work, they don't even listen to what you think. blah blah blah sorry i'm complaining, i'll let you all know how my doctor is. i'm in philadelphia and will be going to a univ. of penn. derm. i totally have my fingers crossed...

i hope it works too, for the both of us. do you think maybe this is just the medicine pushing all the bad stuff out at once? like normally it would have taken a week or so for the ones you have now to come up but since the mino is in your blood its bringing everything to a head? i'm in the same boat as you. i've got 2 more big ones, one on my jaw line and one at the bridge of my eyebrow (weird). but i've been noticing some little ones too, little whiteheads that i don't usually get. it is still early, we've got to encourage each other to stick with it. i thought i read in another thread that you were on yaz? i could be mistaken. are you on that bcp? i'm not on any and i've made an appointment for the obgyn to ask for yaz... if you are on it do you think it helps? good luck!!! hang in there smile.gif

well I'm not a doctor, far from it, but are you trying to say that dermatologists don't know what they're doing? Of course antibiotics work, you always have to take the advice from your derm, he's the expert in skin issues, not you. I'm not saying that all of them will get everything right, but most of them will sooner or later and just thinking that they're full of shit and that they don't want to help won't make your acne go away will it? But antibiotics will biggrin.gif They kill the source of the acne, the bacteria. Without bacteria there is no acne, without water no life biggrin.gif It all fit's together nicely.

I know. ok think positive, this will work for us!! I think its probably normal to break out at first (im hoping ) and my derm told me it's not supposed to work till like a 6 weeks into it. Then it starts working really well. Im not on the birth control anymore.. tried yasmin, couldn't stand it because it backfired sooo bad my skin was a MESS for ages.. but theres people that have said its soo good.. everyones different really. plus Yaz is different from yasmin so it might work! good luck with everything. keep posting. !

Hey, i started my Mino course on monday 20th aug, and i got a nasty breakout sad.gif but everything has cleared up now smile.gif and my skin is looking much better, only thing i notice is that my skin is sensitive to wind and my lips keep getting chapped.

vaseline takes care of that smile.gif but yeah, the initial outbreak wasnt that bad, and it may of been due to the Nicam gel im using aswell, but my skin is pretty clear apart from red marks, but not so much active acne smile.gif

hey cpt. why can't you take zinc with mino??? i just found out that my stupid multi has 110% of your daily value of idodine from kelp (first of all who needs 110%, over kill right?) anywho that's not good for your acne so i was wondering if you take a good multi you can recommend... good luck with mino and keep us posted... do you get any side effects from it? how much are you taking?

hey, yeah iodine is bad for acne, i get breakouts if i eat seafood which is high in iodine (though i love mixed paela).

Also, it says on the warning sheet in my mino box that zinc/calcium and digestive medicines cannot be taken with mino as it causes stomache upsets.

I cant really recommend a good multi since most of them contain zinc sad.gif all i do is take the individual ones smile.gif holland and barrette have some massive sale on atm, most vitamins are reduced apart from one like CoQ10 ect. But standard vits like A/C/E ect are all reduced smile.gif

I take 1 minocycline (brand name: Sebomin) daily one hour after/before food and 2 hours after/before i drink/eat any dairy products. I only experiance headaches and cramp, but the headache goes away, and the cramp i can handle since i play semi pro football (thats soccer for any americans/canadians reading this lol)

so its actually pretty good smile.gif

So your saying you got cleared in 5 days? Started on the 20th.. you posted on the 25th? rolleyes.gif

I was on Minocycline for about two months, only thing it cleared up was some mild bacne for me, for my face.... nothing cleared up, just less inflammation.

Been on Minocycline for around 3 months now, and it's done NOTHING! i am soo disappointed because i had high hopes. my skin as of right now actually looks a lot worse than it usually does, and is extremely oily.

This is just me, though, and everyone reacts differently. For instance, my roommate is on the same thing as me and it works wonders for her. As for me, does absolutely nothing; i don't even have any side effects! it's as if i'm taking a placebo.

Keep it up though for at least a few months and then you'll know whether or not it's working. Good luck with yours!
