if you have mainly only scars left from acne, but little active acne forming, is accutane an appropriate treatment?

People say it is good in helping shallow scars but the effects are not noticed until you come off of it because it thins/sheds the skin while you are on it. If you have deep scars, it probably won't help at all with that. Talk to your derm and see what they think.

No. Not at all. Accutane is for active acne. The only reason Accutane might improve some superficial indented scars is due to its exfoliative abilities.
Topical retinoids are great for either red marks (which are not scars, by the way) and superficial indented scarring.
