Can anyone give me anymore information on Low Dose Accutane? I have used retinoids for approaching two years, bp for approaching 5, & every single pill for a full 8-10 weeks at least. My acne is borderline manageable, but my oil production is INSANE. I can use an entire sheet of the oil blotters each hour, on the hour, from 8 AM to 8 PM. I've been on Omega 3's for about 3 months & i tried B5 for about 10 weeks. If anything my oil production is higher than it used to be. I feel very secure that I have exhausted every single option (barring drastic surgery) to get the results I want. I would like to go on a low dose accutane routine in combination with the CSR (which helps my acne, not my oil production) in the near future. Are the side effects still as prominent if i were to take half or quarter dosage? Would I still experience the initial breakout? What are your experiences with low dosages vs. normal dosages?

Hi there-

Low dose Accutane works but you need to find a Derm. that will support and watch you through. Most Derm's won't prescribe lower dose, but some do. I'm on low dose (10mg day month one in May and since June I've been on 20mg day). I have mild acne plus mild Rosacea. Low dose is good options for sensitive skins like mine or those that don't want more side effects a higher doses. With lower dose, it works to reduce sebum, clear pores, and kill acne. I love it. Month one my oilness decreased and pores started to clear... Since month two my face is normal/dry and hardly any new acne (maybe one/two during the month). The treatment with low dose is usually longer than the standard (4-6 months) to get to the cummulative dose. I don't mind because I'd rather not aggravate my very sensitive skin. My side effects are mild - some achiness, tiredness, drier face/eyes/lips. My skin hasn't been this clear in a long time and makeup lasts all day too!

Good luck.

Yvette
