I have an appointment with a new dermatologist mid September. Apparently he's really good (which is why I've been on a waiting list for 3 months) and I'm hoping he will finally be able to help me. My acne is not terrible, but it is chronic and I have VERY oily skin, which causes blackheads and thus enlarged pores...I'm currently on minocycline (50 mg a day) which has helped with the actual pimples a bit, but it's only a matter of time before I become immune. Anyway, if I propose that I start on a low dose, do you think he well give me accutane?

He should do. Alot of derms are quite lax about giving people accutane even if their skin isnt that bad. When i went to see mine, i had 5 small pimples on my face and he prescribed it to me. Its not that mines bad, but that its continuous (and at 22 im getting sick of it). Im on doxycycline atm and as soon as i come off it the acne comes back.

At the end of the day its your skin, and if youre generally healthy theres no reason why he shouldnt prescribe it to you smile.gif

Goodluck!

Pretty easy to get accutane..

I have mild acne which is not too bad and I was prescribed accutane first of all, my derm didnt want to 'muck around' with other treatments..

But I changed my mind coz I want to have another baby, Im now on doxy which seems to be working well.. like accutane the treatment only works for as long as you are taking it or in antibiotics case until they no longer work..

have bad acne that doesn't respond to antibiotics. if nothing else works they will probably put you on accutane. just ask about it.

Go in there prepared and tell him all the meds you've been on that didnt work. Tell him you've had enough and would like Tane.

If u try to get it on insurance or free NHS care, it will be more difficult to convince the derm to give it to you, if you have mild acne.
They don't want to 'waste' money, so they will try to get you to take antibiotics for months and months first. Isotretinoin is quite expensive.
My NHS derm said i must go on 1 antibiotic for 3 months, then a different one for another 3 months, and then she would consider giving me Isotretinoin. I said i couldn't wait, and so i went private.

If you go private and pay for your treatment, you will get it immediately.

Thanks everyone!
Well that's good and bad to hear since we don't have insurance...but then i have to convince my parents to shell out all that money. but ive been on doxy and minocycline and both didn't really work so...
