I myself use the L'oreal Mineral make-up (Bare Naturale) and I'm really impressed. It's amazing, gives great coverage. seriously. it makes me look flawless. I've never had this happen with make-up before. I don't know a lot about make-up any way and am terrible at applying it and this stuff is great. In 3 minutes my face looks perfect.
I feel with regular foundation you apply with a sponge or sth makes your skin look way drier.
I just use a moisturizer before I put on the mineral powder (I use Aveeno anti-red moisturizer) and let it absorb and then a couple minutes later I'm ready to go.
so yea, definitely go with the mineral make-up. it's good for your skin and looks so natural.

1. I wash my face with a good, mild soap. Nothing fancy dancy, just a nice mild soap. (Right now, I'm using that Goat's Milk lavender soap that was mentioned somewhere on this board.) Then afterwards, I put on a very small amount of The Body Shop's peppermint *foot scrub*. Yeah, you read that right. Of course anyone in their right mind would say, "Oh no! A rough exfoliant on an Accutaned face?" "And a product that contains *oil*?" lol But I use this on my feet, noticed how great my feet felt, so I began trying it on my face. I gently rub it on, and it removes all the creepy little Accutane-induced skin flakes. I rinse this off, and then I usually don't need to put on ANY moisture cream, except for at night. My skin feels so soft and smooth. Unbelievable!. Then I use a little bit of tape to remove a few persisten flakes on the tip of my nose that always seem to crop up.
2. Next, I use a "primer". I bought the Laura Geller one, called "Spackle" off of QVC or HSN.
3. After that, with my fingers, I apply a light application of a moisturizing foundation. (I'm using a sample of Paula's Choice right now, and I really like that.) That adds a little extra moisture, and gives me some coverage. I really need more coverage, but using that type of foundation alone would give my face a little too much moisture.
4. I dot a little Dermablend on some red spots/scars.
5. Then comes my magic mix. I used to use Maybelline Wonder Finish, and then stocked up when it was being discontinued. But I'm guessing any "liquid-to-powder" foundation would be fine for this. Anyways, I mix a little of this with some Mary kay medium coverage makeup. I do this because the MK is a little too creamy on its own, and the liquid-to-powder Maybelline alone doesn't give the final finish I like. I daub this on, feather it with a foundation brush. Then I put a small dusting of finishing powder.
Perfection!
This sounds like a major to-do, but it's not. And I put on just a small amount of everything, so it's not like my face looks "caked on". And my makeup usually looks good and lasts all day! Sometimes I just need to touch it up with a little blending using the foundation brush, but otherwise it stays looking good, even in different types of lights (sunlight, fluorescent, incandescent, etc.).
I have tried: L'oreal makeup--maybe it's Color Match or something? That one kind of sunk into my large pores, and didn't cling enough to the top of my skin. I get that same issue with the mineral makeup--tried Every Day Minerals and Bare Minerals. I've also tried: Cover blend, Face Atelier (would be good for me as the first step only), and Cover FX. My current way is better than these other makeups, and many of those that I mentioned are much more expensive.
I'm thinking that the Mary Kay makeup would work as my first step, but the color I bought is too dark for me, so I'm using it up by mixing it with the Maybelline, and it looks fine. When this tube is gone, I'll order the correct color and then try that as my first step, and then mix a drop of it with the Maybelline Wonder finish as the next step. (Yes, I could have just exchanged the MK tube for a different color, but I didn't.)
Back to the exfoliant scrub: I was a little wary of telling my derm that I've been doing this. But I just brought the jar of it in to the derm yesterday, and she sees no problem with my using it---and even mentioned to me that, wow, my face doesn't look too dry or flaky. (Obviously due to using the scrub.) Prior to using that scrub, my cheeks and chin would look flaky by 3:00 in the afternoon. My makeup would cling to those flakes, and look even worse. This scrub has totally eliminated that!
I need to reiterate that I do NOT scrub with the scrub! Doing so would rip the skin right off my face! I only gently rub it on, as though I were gently washing a baby's skin.
You also may have noticed that I don't use a sunscreen moisturizer on a daily basis. I don't go out in the sun too much, but when I know that I'll be out in the sun, I'll put this on before doing my makeup. Then I usually just use the MK/Maybelline mix.
This may not work for everyone, but it's doing great for me. And I'm an Accutane veteran--I've been on Accutane in the past, too.

You can get a glow in other ways, & bismuth is a known skin irritant.
There are better mineral makeups out there. Acne prone people tend to need to be a bit cautious about ingredients.

I would not pay attention to the authors ^ makeup recommendations though. I know everday minerals, aubrey nicole, & meow cosmetics mineral formulas contain no bismuth.
Good luck in finding the right product for you!

About Bare Minerals...uh, I'd stay away from it. There have been A LOT of people that have broken out from it because of the bismuth oxychloride. When I used it, I broke out and my skin was VERY itchy--it was horrible. It took me a while to figure out that it was the Bare Minerals. I switched to Everyday Minerals and have no problems w/ it and Accutane

What shade did they recommend for you in Bare Minerals? If they gave you a shade, then you can email Everyday Minerals customer service (and tell them your Bare Minerals shade) and they can recommend some shades. You can also email a pic. of yourself in broad daylight to customer service and they will recommend some shades. Try ordering the free sample kit first, well, because it's free and can try the different shades and formulations.
But the most important thing is to have a GREAT moisturizer and apply it before the makeup!!!!

I use this: http://www.truemoisture.com/gentlefaciallotion.html
My derm created it and it works really well. Since switching to it, I've had no flakes or dryness. It's kind of expensive though, so that sucks. You can also try DK's moisturizer and I know that people have had success w/ Cetaphil. You just need one that will take care of those pesky flakes. Mineral makeup (and I guess any makeup) looks really well over moisturized skin.
Here are some other brands that offer samples that are bismuth free: Alima, Lumiere, Signature Minerals, Aubrey Nicole, Lure Beauty, Meow Cosmetics... there are many more but I can't think of them right now. So you can check those out too and play around until you find one you like.

Wow that moisturizer is really expensive. I guess it's worth it though if it works! Do you guys find that mineral makeup works as well as liquid for cover acne/red marks/scares etc?

If you go to the cosmetics section of the message board, you can ask for some more info if you need it. You can do a search, and you'll find loads of info. on Everyday Minerals and mineral makeup in general.

For me, no. I found that the Mineral makeup wanted to sink into my pores, and then my skin would look blotchy when you got up close. It's kind of difficult to explain. It would do this no matter how I applied it: I tried the suggested way of the swirl, tap and brush, using the bare escentuals kabuki brush; I tried smoothing it with my fingers; I tried gently pouncing it on (that worked better);
The makeup I've tried that seems to look the most smoothing is the now discontinued Maybelline Wonder Finish. But since it is so sheer, I need to combine it with something else. I'm guessing that the Maybelline WF is probably available from someone on Ebay.
