so i've been on accutane for almost 6 months at 60 mg a day (i weigh 60 kg). i have only a few days left & am nowhere near clear. aside from how disgusting my skin texture/redmarks/scars appear to me, i still have some active acne. i went to the dermatologist today & he did not want to keep me on another month, nor give me anything like retin-a to use when im done. i am going away to college in 2 weeks with no acne products & feel very nervous about this. i am praying that it continues to do its job but alas i cannot help but worry myself to peices..
anyone with help/advice/personal stories, PLEASE tell me there is still a good chance i will get better.. & that my derm is not crazy for not giving me another month or topicals being that im not yet clear?

Im not 100% clear either and I was on exact dose and duration as you but Im on a topical now. But Im much improved than I was before Tane. Your doc. needs to wake up and prescribe you a topical to maintain what you have achieved this far. As far as ending Tane 6 months is usually the limit for a course however, if your acne is still pretty bad ask him his reasoning for not keeping you on it maybe another month to clear you up better.

If you're not clear your derm should keep you on it longer until you are pretty much completely clear. Dont forget that the drug does keep working for a while after you have finished, so you shoould continue to see improvemnt in months to come.

I have the same fear- I've gotten my last batch of tane and get one pimple every few weeks, which doesn't bug me. The fact that I'm leaving for college and 6 months away from my derm does, she isn't prescribing anything post-tane either. Are there any facts on this accutane continuing to improve after treatment? This makes sense for the few weeks it takes to get out of your system, but after that, does it continue to improve?

It should improve for a few weeks, but after about a month or so it will stop I would have thought. If you are only getting the occasion spot I wouldnt be concerned with it though. The worst case is that you start seeing more and more coming up, in which case you would probably have to go on a sceond course, but that is worst case, best, and most likely case is that you will be fine.

thanks for all the replies everyone..
my skin is nowhere near as bad as before i started accutane but yeah it's definitely not where i'd like it to be. people on here have said that some people do not clear until AFTER a course is finished and im pretty much praying that is what will happen with me. its really concerning that my derm won't give me any topicals or any maitenance. i asked him y and he said that he doesn't want to irritate my skin and that hopefully it will improve more into the upcoming months. if not, im screwed pretty much.
anyone else on this board have any stories with similar experience?

I really think you need a topical. Accutane , I'm sure, irritated your skin also so whats the big deal? Ask him to give you a mild dosage of Retin A and maybe use once weekly. I have occurence of pimples and 1 enormous cysts developed after Tane so the notion it improves isnt always the case.

Accutane failure number 3737373792902716178181 ?
I had some big active spots on the day I finished my 6.5 month course..but since I stopped taking Accutane it has been better with the active acne (don't know if this is temporary though, I'm 1.5 month post now...)
However, the redmarks, scars, and the skin texture has not improved at all and my skin looks terrible. I still see Accutane as a h u g e mistake...
