I'm on the second month of accutane, it's going great, I'm almost clear except for like 4 active cysts and a few red marks.

The problem is, is that I cannot go to sleep at night; however, during the day I'm very tired. I've read posts on people having this problem before on accutane, but is there anything I can do? I am in college, and I need to be alert durring the day.

I was thinking of buying some Nyquil and using it at night so I can fall asleep at night, and hopefully be alert durring the day. I am afraid of becomming depended/ addicted to Nyquil though.

I'm hopping this will go away soon after I finish my Accutane course. Any suggestions?

Having this same problem as well, dont listen to what anyone else says after me... Your in college, get some bud. Trust me man there is no better remedy for the side effects in general while on tane. It helps everything but moisturizing! There is not one known death from mj, it has shown to inhibit and reduce mass of lung cancer in mice, studies show cells proliferate more rapidly in the brain with THC present. GOODAY.

Further validation to my point: Nyquil, Tylenol PM, generic sleep-aid pills all contain Diphenhydramine which is a nasty drug IMHO. Its the standard sleep aid generic ingredient. ITS BS honestly, alot of people get jittery from this, the sleep is not as effective, and you wake up feeling groggy as sin. With ambien or other prescription sleep meds this is also true, they all make you feel groggy\slow\crappy the next day, not like my recommendation above.

haha what a gnarly reply.

I'd have to second all4accutane's recommendation weed is the best for dozing off with, though you can get burnt out through the day from a sesh the night before. Just try to limit it to weekends and such to help regulate a regular sleeping pattern.

rolleyes.gif Right. Smoke weed, drop out of college cause you fail.

Take a very small dose of Melatonin. It's a natural sleep regulator in your own body and merely taking it promotes a restful sleep without drowsiness the next day, and no risk of failing college 'cause you're too stoned to care.

Of course, limit caffeine after 6pm. Caffeine's effects linger for up to six or so hours after last imbibing.

If you don't take it like a few hours before an exam or before studying you'll be ok lol, For me its a great painkiller for my back aches.

I had a boyfriend in college who got stoned just about daily. He dropped out of college and never went back to college. So I know what it can do. He lost his motivation, his desire to improve, his desire to be happy. All he wanted to do was smoke weed. Those dangers are real. I've seen it.

Yeah, it's not a good idea. Smoking everyday is just bad in so many ways. Especially when you are in College and paying for your education. Although not severe, you will surely feel the after effects 7-8 later when you wake up and that is not good on a daily basis.

Smoking weed does not make you stupid or lazy. For the person who said their boyfriend dropped out of college and does nothing but smoke weed fails to realize their boyfriend wouldn't have made it through college either way and merely smoked weed to cope with that fact. If it wasn't weed, it would have been alcohol, another drug, or some other self destructive habit(playing video games ALL day). Having many friends and knowing TONS of people who have\are graduate(ing) from OSU with honors, engineers, pre-med students, med students, the same with oh so many other colleges I visit and\or have friends at. Rest assured smoking weed is not the problem, the problem is the person smoking it. Its not a physically addicting substance like hard drugs. Im not here to preach to you, but the facts simply counteract what your saying. If a stupid & lackadaisical person starts and continues smoking weed on a regular basis you cannot blame the weed for that persons stupidity and lack of motivation.

^You may think as you like, or rationalize as you like. The college I went to was highly selective. This 'stupid' boyfriend had near perfect SATs... and was exceptionally talented in physics and chemistry. Not exactly stupid.

Good "sleep hygiene" (can google this) is your friend. During the summertime I think it is especially important to turn down lights before bedtime, since it's so light out during the evening. If you are still having trouble with your sleep-wake cycle, your doc might be able to advise you on a sleeping medication; I am taking Sonata and it works beautifully.

The melatonin suggestion is a good one. I have used this in the past and by taking a melatonin supplement you are essentially doing the same thing weed does. Weed increases melatonin in the brain by some incredible number. But like weed use melatonin in moderation and the use most minimal dosage that works for you as excessive doses can cause grogginess and supposedly mild depression in the long run. Also exercise and waking up and going to bed at the same time every day is helpful too.

First poster: I have had sleep problems my whole life, weed only worked at first but now it won't make me sleep unless I want to. I would say make sure you only sleep 8 or so hours, and make sure you don't drink ANY caffeine after 4. I would also suggest just lying in bed at least an hour before you want to fall asleep and just relax. Also try taking some big breaths and thinking about some time in your life when you were really happy. Like describe the situation to yourself and I guarantee that you will be asleep before you finish.

None of this matters if the person smoking the weed is lazy when he/she smokes it. Like others have said I know people that have done very well for themselves and are potheads, they just know how to use it. They don't smoke and sit around and play video games or eat. They study or watch discovery channel's Planet Earth. I know a Physics/Math major that graduates next year that smokes when she studies math because it helps her remember it! Strange huh?

Which is worse? Get high and watch Planet Earth, or drink and throw up all over everyone?

I find turning down the lights and lying in bed and watching half an hour of Leno or Letterman usually helps. Watching TV can help relax you in prep for falling asleep.

Rationalize as you like. Think as you like. And I shall continue to do the same.

Smoking daily will not automatically cause you to be stupid and lazy - it's not that black and white and a lot of it is dependent on the individual. There is nothing wrong with occasional use, but daily, chronic use can in fact affect brain function (but not structure).

Here are a couple quotes from the article;

"Our research showed some fairly dramatic changes in brain blood flow in some frequent marijuana users, even after the immediate effects of smoking had worn off."

"The idea that frequent marijuana use impairs mental abilities is still controversial, but several recent studies, including our own, support such an association," Block said. "Although the cerebellum was traditionally thought mainly to be involved in controlling movements, more recent evidence has shown that it also plays a role in memory, attention, and other mental abilities. Some cognitive effects of marijuana use may be related to this lower activity of the posterior cerebellum."

And the link to a study/article in case you are interestd;

Lol at the weed suggestion. Works for some, each to their own.

Melatonin is AWESOME stuff. I used to take prescription sedatives but my Dr would never prescribe them to me long term due to their addictive properties. Melatonin works just as well, but takes a couple of hours to kick in as opposed to 20 minutes.

I swear by the stuff, and if you have problems staying asleep you can add some anti-histamine in with it (i take about 6mg of phenergan every night) and sleep like a baby!
