Someone at work was telling me about this just yesterday. They said their daughter did it and it worked. Who knows. I guess when you get desperate enough you will try anything and I'm almost at that point. Spent my 20's feeling terrrible about myself.

This is my first post- but have been 'popping' in to this site for years, looking for advice, suggestions, help-HOPE! I'm 29 and have struggled with acne since my teens. It started out mild and got progressively worse. I finally tried Proactiv after meeting my now husband-he swore by it. With some help from a Retin-A prescrip. and continuing the Proactiv I was able to maintain it, but it was never perfect. Now, since getting pregnant and having my son (he's 14 months now) my skin has gone BONKERS. I cannot control it at all. I desperately want to go natural to avoid all the harsh chemicals but nothing works- not even my old routine. I want to hide in a hole my face is so bad- I'm a new mom! I don't have time to spend an hour perfecting the coverup! My skin has become SUPER sensitive and my face feels raw and burnt- between that sensation and the painful breakouts, it's really sore. Even the bristles on my makeup brush irritate my face.

K- so that's my background.......I just spent all day reading this thread from the first page. And yes, my first initial thought was- WHAT? No way..... BUT, after continuing to read and doing my own research (and yes, we're pretty granola in my house) it all started to make sense. So, today already I've done 2 applications....yup- I did it. My open sore acne did seem less red and my face is not tight like it would be with all the BP crap from Proactiv, but of course there's lots of healing to be done and it's still raw. But the thing is......it smells. I have been smelling urine all day long. I fell nauseous after inhaling that scent for so long. Is my urine just super concentrated? Would it help to dilute it? Have people still had success with washing it off after say 30 mins? I am DESPERATE and holding out hope that this could be my answer, but I can't stand it smelling. Also, what are the brands of the so called "mild cleansers" people are using? I need to ditch the harsh Proactiv, but have no idea what to replace it with- I need to be able to wash off the makeup (which I use mineral makeup to reduce oils an chemicals on my skin).
Also, is everyone just quiting their old regemine cold turkey? I fear that if I stop the Retin-A that my skin will freak out- should I continue to use it at night for a while and wean off?

Please everyone keep posting who is using this method- I SO want this to work!!!!

Okay. After a five minute internal debate (This is gross. Is this gross? It's definitely weird. Is it though?) I decided to take a "before" picture and give it a shot!

And if nothing good comes from it, at least it will be an amusing memory.

I will let you know how it goes! Wish me luck!

Well urine and urea may have a topical effect, I am not going to dispute that, but why bother with all that tedious work when one can take a pill and have all the problems resolved? I know it sounds too good to be true but after taking every pill on Earth to clear my adult acne I opted for homeopathy and I have never, ever ever had a spot since, not even those pre-menstrual spots which everybody gets. I did go to a homeopath of course but I would recommend it to everybody. NO side-effects and, once the skin has been cleared, you don't have to take it again.

I just started using urine and I have to tell you I already feel a difference. I haven't been doing it long enough to see all the benefits but what I have already noticed is my skin is very soft and it feels like I went nuts with exfolliating. When I wash my face I can always feel scaley skin around the nose area and below my eyes. After using the urine for just 1 day that is gone. Honest to goodness I would have had to scrub my face with sand to have that happen. And no redness. I think you might have something here. I will keep everyone updated on how this progresses. Oh just to let everyone know I never had a problem with acne until I stopped using depo. 3 - 6 months after my last shot it was nothing to break out with 20 + cysts at a time. By the time those cleared up the next batch was on its way. I have tried everything from vitamins to topicals and finally gave up last month. I threw away all the cremes, washes, vitamins and whatever else i had come across. I figured why fight it. Hopefully this is what I've been waiting for smile.gif

I just wanted to post my experience. I never had any acne to speak of really until age 25, then it just hit me like a bomb. I ended up going to a dermatologist, was put on minocycline and differin. After about six months, the infection was gone, but I still used differin, which is rather expensive. Lately I've just been using benzoyl peroxide and it works about 70 percent, but I still always have visible pimples on both sides of my chin, occasionally my upper lip, always at the temples and across my forehead. Any my face is always super dry from the Benzoyl Peroxide.
Plus the benzoyl constantly stains my clothes, and I'm 29, I'm really sick of having to deal with acne!!

So, five days ago, I bit the bullet, did some research on urine therapy, and decided what the heck, it'd be cheaper, and maybe my face wouldn't be so dry, since urine apparently is a good moisturizer. After five days of washing my face with facial soap at night and in the morning, and applying urine using a cotton swab three to four times a day, I have ZERO noticeable acne spots, and nothing getting ready to erupt, which has never happened before. If I had gone five days without applying BP at night, I would look like a pizza and probably wouldn't leave my house I'd be so broken out. I also haven't applied a moisturizer yet, which obviously means it works for that as well. The urine doesn't smell after you apply it to your face, it gets absorbed, I don't wash it off, and am 110% happy with the results. Just thought I'd report my results and let you decide for yourself.

I am 2 weeks into using the UT and I have to say I have seen some very positive results. I apply it to my face with cotton balls everytime I pee at home. If I go out I wash my face and apply witch hazel. I started 2 weeks before my period and should have broke out with 10 + huge unpoppable cysts and I did not. In fact my period was a complete surprise to me because the new cysts ( the ones from last period clear up right before the next batch ) were not there to alert me that it was coming. The first thing I noticed while using the UT is that my skin was not dry at all. I also noticed that the pimples I did have got very dry after applying the urine. I used to soak my face in rubbing alcohol and the only thing that seemed to dry out was the skin around the pimples. My pores have also shrunk and none of the products I used for pore shrinkage ever seemed to last. I am sold on the UT therapy and anyone that thinks this is bogus and taking advantage of desperate people is very wrong. Maybe it doesn't work for everyone but it sure does seem to be working for me. I read that some people drink it but that isn't going to happen for me. I don't have a problem putting it on my face because god knows what I have been putting on it to begin with not to mention the money I have washed down the drain. Those of you that have tried everything else give the UT a try. You have nothing to lose. I have tried everything short of Accutane and if I could afford it I would use it. I love that this is free and it works. Give it a try folks.

This will be my last post until the end of March. I have been using the urine method for a couple weeks now and it is unbelievable how great it is working. I had no breakouts during my period and I am completely clear of pimples which is very hard to believe. I should have broke out with 10 + huge cysts and I didn't. I had 2 small pimples that popped easily and disappeared within a day. My pores are also smaller. Another thing I noticed was how quickly a burn healed when applying the urine. I burned my forehead with the curling iron after trimming my bangs. At first I wiped around the burn but then thought what the heck. It is healing faster than I can believe. I cannot believe that this is working. It is something that has always been available to me. Please do not allow the naysayers to sway you away from trying this. If it worked for me it has to work for others. I would get 10 - 30 huge cysts a week before my period and just when it seemed like they were going away it would be time for the next batch so I was always broke out. The real test will be when my next period is due. If I do not break out with huge cysts then there is no doubt about this working. I really don't have any doubts now because I have never been this clear since stopping the depo shots. I am so glad i chose to ignore the negative comments and try this myself. I really don't have a set routine. I collect my first morning urine and apply it throughout the day. If I'm at home I will just dab it on here and there and then wash my face and apply which hazel before leaving. If I come home and I'm not going anywhere I wash and apply the urine again. Before going to bed I wash and apply more urine and spill out that days urine. Clean the little ziploc container and collect the next mornings urine. I probably dab on the urine 4 - 6 times a day. What a HUGE difference. I am so pleased with the results.

I have been using UT since last Aug 2010. I have never been clear in my entire life, my skin has the glowing red on the cheeks and I am a tan complexion. I do not ingest (drink) it tho; just for the face. I still use it to this day. I just spray 2x of cologne just in case there is a smell....but none of my friends ever complaints, so its safe to say they don't smell it. And I have people give COMPLIMENTS on my skin saying its FLAWLESS!! They think I'm 27 yrs old...BUT I'M 39!!! Theyre so SURPRISED!! i DON'T tell them im on UT tho. Im just enjoying it now!!! Also, I'm on Retina .1%

I am sold on the UT for me it works like nothing else has. I use dove soap and sometimes I use the kids 360 face scrub stuff if they leave it at the tub. The UT alone has cleared me up and that in itsself is a miracle. I can't wait until its that time of the month because that will be the deciding factor if this actually works. If I do not have a break out then there is no doubt about how well this works. I am amased at how quickly my burn healed also.

I am trying UT, 3 weeks in and my skin is terrible, while it reduces the redness more spots seems to be coming up then have for years. Its frustrating, i was really hoping this would work, i do suffer from anxiety and am sure this doesn't help the matter but as a 28 yr old guy having acne this bad again is a pain in the ass. Did anyone else have a bad reaction to UT, did it eventually work?

Hey,
I just wanted to comment on this forum. I've never posted on anything before, just taken ALL the different methods/advice/suggestions and tried them.
I'm 26, never had bad skin as a teenager or early 20s (in fact was much more prone to dry skin and had eczema for most of my life, sometimes on my face but mostly on my body)
I'd had pretty ok skin most my life (an odd pimple here and there but nothing major). I eat well, I am very healthy, I don't drink, I do regular sport. But about 3 years ago, when I met my now ex-boyfriend, I suddenly got really bad persistent acne. I fought it with topicals (proactiv, acne-free, various different OTCs) and just tried not to let it bother me too much, which of course it did. One of the things that bothered me the most was the extreme harshness of all products.

It came and went, but was pretty persistent (although became milder) over the 2 years, then a year ago I was so mad that I went on accutane. It worked a treat for the acne, but had enormous adverse reactions to my eczema. I stuck with it, despite the pain, and my skin was perfect... for about 6 months. A month ago (a yr after starting accutane which i took for 6 months) I started to break out again. I'm super sensitive hormonally speaking so thought not too much of it, although the fear was set in!
I'd re-found my self confidence and now I feel it slipping away, so I went to the derma, and she's given me the antibiotic doxy as it should clear it up pretty fast. My fear is though, of course, that after that's done, it'll come back. So I've been looking for other options. I don't want to go on accutane again, although I'm considering taking a Vit-A supplement (nothing crazy excessive maybe 15000 iu a day) for 'skin maintenance'. And I have some pretty effective dermalogica products for sporadic breakouts, but yes they are expensive and to be honest, I'd rather go for something totally natural (and free!)

I came across this post, and can't believe I hadn't heard of it before (my research hasn't been as extensive as I thought apparently) and I'm blown away by how amazing it sounds.
I just applied urine all over my face (in the manner Jen recommends) and it feels tight, which to be honest as someone that has had a lot of eczema, isn't so comfortable for me, but it doesn't feel negative tight at all. I am on the antibiotics so am aware these will have some effect on my urine, but after reading the posts, I couldn't wait to try, I'm really wanting to clear my skin ASAP as I got someone I'm really into seeing me this weekend!

I'm so fed up of putting shit in my body, on my face, etc etc, that this sounds like a dream (if, yes indeed a little inconvenient at times) and for me I still want to use a moisturising sunscreen in the day, it's against the eczema and of course, sun protection is really important.

As I said, I'm really v healthy, a veggie, I only drink water and tea (sometimes coffee, red wine or scotch! but not often) and so bad skin is really disheartening. But I feel inspired by the positive comments on this forum. Thanks to all who have posted.

I'm pretty busy, and don't get that much time to go on the internet, but I will post back when I can. I see people need the positive encouraging feedback, and I think this is a really great, valid, natural solution (if it works for me I'll double that sentiment!)

I do wonder about the tackling acne from inside versus topically.
I know my skin is totally hormonal, and certainly accutance and it seems doxy both work which both tackle internally, and of course urine is a topical treatment. I really hope to be able to get rid of the acne with the doxy right now and then use my very gentle skin regime (dermalogica cleanser, daily microfoliant from time to time and moisturiser) and use urine (unfortunately prob only 2x a day) as a toner type product, after cleansing morning and eve, but before moisturising (which could be interesting if it seems I don't need to do it, but I'm skeptical bcos of my eczema/dry skin) and to see if this system works as a healthy skin maintenance system.

Thanks again, for all the advice/stories. I'll post back, maybe it'd be interesting for anyone else who also has that annoying combination of eczema with pimples, who knows, maybe it'll work for both!

in the meantime, good luck everyone!

Spectro gel is a good mild cleanser and it will take out makeup unless you have primer on. You may want to give Retin-A a try without proactiv. Proactiv dryed the sh?% out of my face and made my acne worse.

I've heard of this as well.

Urine is totally sterile and has many chemically cleansing properties that can benefit skin.

It might seem disgusting but it has had nothing but positive reviews.

I don't see any particular reason why this would work in general, but I find it hard to argue that it might work for some.

I drink so much water, my pee is practically clear. I don't see what would be so bad about it. Just somewhat inconvenient. Since I drink so much water, I pee probably 10 times a day at least.

Urea is a denaturant and helps maintain pH balance. Not that I"ve tried it though.
