Hey!

I'm on day 49 of Accutane (in week 7), and have finally started to see at least some improvements. I started out with probably 5+ actives (plus red marks, under-the-skin bumps, etc) on both cheeks (cheeks are the only place I break out). My left cheek is now basically free of actives, but my right still has a couple smaller actives, and a couple of small under-the-skin bumps (oh, and LOTS of red marks, of course).

Here's my question - I have a trip and two weddings in 3 weeks, when I'll be about 2 1/2 months in (approx 10 weeks), and I DESPERATELY want to be better than I am now by then. How much improvement do you think is possible over three weeks (providing I don't get worse again, of course)?? I mean, for those of you who have cleared or seen lots of progress, have the results come super gradually, or do they happen steadily? Is it possible that I could be a lot better than a I am now in three weeks? I am aware that this is a dumb question in that 'everyone is different'. But I'm just curious how it has gone for others. It's all about hope! Thanks in advance for your responses! smile.gif

Hi there -

I'm ending month 3 of Accutane. I haven't had any acne since the end of month one. I really didn't have an IB, just that the three pimples on my chin that were healing when I started Tane "flared" up within 3-4 days of starting. My acne was mild though, mainly my chin. My Derm. said usually flares depend on how much acne you have when you start, the more you have active, the more flaring. Also, more potential for more to be under the skin. Your acne seems to be more on the milder side, so hopefully you are over the "hump" so to speak and on your way to clearing and smoothing.

Hang tight and good luck. Enjoy your trips and weddings.

Yvette

I think the improvements won't be super as in you wake up one day and they are all gone. It should be steadily. Mine took about 2 weeks to clear totally and it was a gradual process. I think you know that already! If you are seeing results now it should improve for the better but I dunno how fast it will be. I haven't broke out yet still clear now.

I cleared in about 3 weeks when I first started, then broke out bad for 2 weeks, now it seems to be somewhat settling down again. So to answer your question, you can clear up pretty good in 3 weeks but that might not be it...seems to be a bit of a rollar coaster ride for some people.

thanks for replying...i know it depends on so many factors, but i feel like by the time i start my third month i should be getting closer to being done breaking out. but who knows for sure. i just wondered, if was not to suffer any set-backs, how much improvement is possible over 3 weeks. i guess i will just have to be patient, but it is so hard! i am not living my life as i should be, thanks to acne. i just hope accutane works and gives me back my life. sad.gif

We are close in dates I'm actually 53 days in wow it's more then what I thought, I am still breaking out I have about 15+ actives some are healing now but I'm keeping track of new ones coming up two have come up in the last 4 days so it's slowing down I think. I rang my derm and she said by 2 months in accutane should be in my system and you should see improvments over the next 3 weeks and If i don't to go back and see her. I think month 3 is the month to look out for.

yay. we (tenten, elizabethmargot and me) are all in the same situation.

I'm at 2 months now I think.... I really need to figure out when I started accutane exactly. I think it was the 23rd of May so yea, I'm almost at 2 months.

And full of acne, terrible IB. But I am also hoping for the third month to bring improvement.
I'm seeing my derm the 25th. I just hope she won't put me on 60mg because I want to get clear on a low dose (it should be possible with my rather mild acne) and I just can't take more side effect. My skin is already so dry and my lips are peeling like crazy and the last week I've been getting eczema patches and rashes all over my arms and on my neck....

Yeah, we are all 3 pretty much in the same place. It is SO frustrating to me because I just so badly wanted to be clear-ER by this trip and stuff that I have coming up. I can't believe how long it is taking my right side to stop breaking out. I really hope starting month 3 I start seeing the 'magic' as everyone supposedly says happens. I just really can't take many more days without improvement. cry.gif

yeah, i know what ur saying but its not magic, its like you might still have acne but you completely stop getting more (which is the magic) so you'll prob have to deal with what you have. sorry... but what other acne meds. can guarantee that you'll stop having acne? stay strong through this part because it gets really good later!! ohh by the way, where in WI are you from? i live in MN but i go to Stout in menomonie

Count on 4 months, this way u probably wont be disappointed.

Anyway, thanks for ur comment. You say ur jealous about the things Im about to attend? And now I read u will go on a trip with a hot guy. So just shut up biggrin.gif The great thing is, everything I enjoy now, is a result of a lot of work. On the surface (studying, researching, asking et cetera), but more importantly on my inner self. But that's a chapter I still didnt finish writing and therefore will explain one day in my 30's or something. Bottomline is: embrace life. Anyway, tts a pity u live across the ocean, we could hang out. Nowww, I wish u good luck. I gotta run.

Take care smile.gif
