hey can anyone recommend me a good moisturizer with spf? im using the aqua glycolic one right now for night only. id prefer if its a brand that retailers such as walmart or shoppersdrugmart (canada) carry

If Cetaphil is available there, try the Cetaphil Daily Moisturizing SPF 15 lotion. It's quite nice.

Unfortunately not a moisturizer. The acne.org moisturizer is quite nice. So is Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizing with SPF 15. And my tried and true favorite: Vaseline. Emu oil is nice, but very oily!

Wynne, how long did it take you to see major results from the Avon? Like I said, I've been using it for about 2 and a half weeks now, so I'm sure I'm nowhere near where I WILL be. I just want to have something to look forward to

One month.

Alpha Hydrox AHA Souffle 12% Glycolic AHA vs. Avon Retexturizing Pads Glycloc 10%

What's the difference and what's the most effective?

The Souffle seems to be more gentle. The Avon is marketed as an anti-aging remedy and is also effective for comedonal acne. The Avon is easier to apply; I use it like a toner. It smells better, too, but it is likely too strong for some.

I thought it would be lovely to compile a list of member's glycolic acid products that they have personal experience with and would be willing to recommend to others who are fighting either 1. comedonal acne or 2. combo comedonal acne and small inflamed areas 3. aging 4. any of the above!

i thought glycolic acid is mainly for redmarks not acne

No, it works nicely for comedonal acne.

I second that. Aside from it tasting nasty if you get it too close to your lips, I find it to be very gentle and light.

I am also going to recommend that AmLactin 12% be added to the list on this thread. It has healed acne and scabs on my chest and back amazingly fast. I dont know if it is Glycolic Acid, but the tube says it is an Alpha Hydroxy. (Is that the same thing?) Anyway, so far so good with that product! Very pleased. Maybe will wait a few more weeks to give my firm stamp of approval to test the long term effects.

^The AmLactin isn't a glycolic acid product, but it is an AHA. Other acids (non-AHAs) are also good at exfoliation (TCA, mandelic, etc).

^^^^^

I notice Wynne that you have experience of TCA peels.

I have read up about their strength and think i should try to get some feedback before diving into the deep end with this.

I would like to know how well it worked and also how long it healed? Basically just if its worth getting, it just seems a bit risky, but the effects which can be achieved seem awesome.

For first time users, a 12.5% TCA peel is more than sufficient. For those who've used AHAs a while, a 15% or 20% is sufficient. Higher than that is only for very experienced persons who are very good with judging their own skin and its reactions.

There are many users who've had experience with TCA peels; why don't you start a thread about them in the scar treatments or red marks forum? I'll post my experience there and more than likely you'll get lots of helpful responses in a separate thread dedicated to TCA peels.

Hi i'm from Melbourne. Australia. Just wondering if anyone knows of any glycolic acid products with more than 5% that I don't have to purchase online. Something I can get from like target or myers etc.

Thanks, Anna smile.gif

does any1 know if it's okay to add the 12% souffle with BP? on the face and would using the baby brush method every other night would be too much? i used it before with great results but i broke out with little whiteheads, so i stooped, i was thinking the gycolic acid is an exfoliant but might be clogging up my pores which led to the whiteheads, so if i add the brush method it would get all the dead cells away from my face? thx in advance any1?

Jan Marini Bioglycolic Facial Cleanser.

http://www.janmarini.com/BioglycolicFacialCleanser.html

Non-drying and works a treat! Expensive though at around £25 a bottle. Smaller travel sizes can be bought on eBay.

MD Formulations Facial Cleanser

http://www.mdformulations.com/sdx/H18698.jsp

Similar price as above, but slightly larger bottle. Both are US products and a bit hard to find in the UK. Use internet mail order.

So in comparison to glycolic acid and salicyclic acid, salicyclic is preferred when battling acne?

http://shop.paulaschoice.com/product/225/8

This product sort of interested me. I have to do more research, but I'm kind of impulsive and eager to start buying right away. I heard good things about Paula, so it was the first website I chose.

I've been using 10% glycolic acid in the morning and retin-a micro at night the past week. My skin has looked better, but just recently, I sprouted like 5 or 6 tiny pimples today that are frustrating me.

As with all acne treatments, product preference is highly individual. I prefer glycolic acid to salicylic acid; it seems much more gentle to me and less irritating although Paula's Choice products are supremely gentle. Others find that the pore-exfoliating ability of BHAs help them more than glycolic acid or other AHAs.

In your first month of retinoid usage you'll likely see more breakouts as your skin purges. You are experiencing that dreaded initial breakout. But if you're persistent, you may notice a great improvement in skin texture and clarity with time. Good luck!

hey wynne [or anyone who has any thoughts or experience from this!]

just wondering if its ok to use the avon pads with active acne - am quite nervous to do so as i dont want a negative reaction - however i know that the skin does purge in the first 2 weeks...

also if i was looking at starting on accutane in the next month or so then would you not recommend this product for me yet- and wait till after my accutane treatment as will using avon do more harm than good- ie = make my skin purge then clear up - then purge form the accutane- this sounds a bit rough for my skin!!???

any advice would be welcome

thanx

If you're starting Accutane you do not need to (nor should you) use something as exfoliative as the Avon glycolic pads. You should get a gentle cleanser and a moisturizer, though.

Oooh, a Brit product I can buy in-store!

Do you still use it? At what point did you use it in your regimen?

Is this what you recommend? http://avonshop.co.uk/shop/product.asp?src...amp;pf_id=30956

How often do you use it? Has it worked to fade your red marks?

Long quote removed for brevity's sake. smile.gif

I'd like to suggest reviva labs 5% and 10% glycolic cream, and their glycolic cleanser and toner. I always had acne, and it that stuff helped me even more that retin-a (argh! I hated that stuff!) and diffren (sp?), which my derm. perscribed. Although, that was about 8 years ago..how time flies!

I use the reviva glycolic products, and I haven't gotten anymore cyctic acne. THANK GOODNESS! And, my skin looks "glowy". I get it from vitacost.com.
