Before you apply a pore strip, use glycolic acid on the area in question. Leave it on for a few minutes and neutralise. Not only does this break down the skin surrounding the pores; making the blackheads easy to remove, it also makes water 'stick' to the skin, making the pore strip stick more firmly. This will remove MUCH more than trying to open the pores using warm water.

this is very tempting -- I mean VERY tempting. However, I have been looking on the Paulus Choice web site, and I see that she says the following:
QUOTE
What about pore strips? What has me most concerned about pore strips (which are not as widely available as they once were) is that most people don’t pay attention to the warnings clearly printed on the side of the box. Pore strips are accompanied by strong warnings such as not to use them over any area other than the nose and not to use them over inflamed, swollen, sunburned, or excessively dry skin. It also states that if the strip is too painful to remove, you should wet it and then carefully remove it. What a warning! You may at first be impressed with what comes off your nose. (Well, if you have extremely superficial, noticeable black-looking blackheads, there is no question: you will be impressed.) Most people do have some oil sitting at the top of their oil glands (most of the face's oil glands are located on the nose), and whether you use these strips or a piece of tape, black dots and some skin will be removed. Is that helpful? Briefly, but if you use these repeatedly, they will not eliminate the problem and the ingredients on the strip can eventually irritate skin and potentially trigger further breakouts.

The way these strips adhere can absolutely injure or tear skin. They are especially unsafe if you've been using Retin-A, Renova, AHAs or BHA; having facial peels; taking Accutane; or if you have naturally thin skin or any skin disorder such as rosacea, psoriasis, or seborrhea.

just thought people might want to consider this, and go very slowly with this technique if they are going to try it!

Pore strips don't work for me as my blackheads are miniscule and deep. They seem to be lodged tightly in their respective pores. Gentle exfoliation (chemical and manual) does more for getting rid of them than anything else for me, anyway. smile.gif

Hi

Just wanted to warn people about over-using pore strips. It is amazing the immediate results that you can get with them because you can get rid of so many blackheads in one quick rip but they can cause permanent damage.

I've always had really bad blackheads on my nose, the pores were really big and the black very noticable and I used pore strips for a couple of years whilst not on any medication.

My over enthusiasm for them though caused a spider thread vein to develop on the bridge of my nose. This was a bright red collection of capilliaries which could be seen through the skin, which turned white when pressed bec this cut off the blood supply.

No amount of make up would keep this big red mark covered up and overall didn't do much to help how I felt about my face.

I got referred to a dermatologist though and had a small proceedure which cauterised the capilliaries and stopped the redness. The result is fantastic but wish I'd not had it in the first place.

I'm now on accutane and the blackheads have disapeared, which is one of the big pros of accutane for me.

No more pore strips for me, thanks. Elmer's non-toxic woodglue is cheaper and 5 times better than a pore strip could ever be. It also doesn't overdry like pore strips.

I tried a pore strip, only once (since I didn't have any pimples that day on the nose and it's quite rare! tongue.gif) and only one blackhead came out. It was quite impressive to see that little guy stickin' to the pore strip, but it has left a hole on the tip of my nose! It's been at least 5 years since I did this, and forever I have this open pore that looks like a little hole on my nose. Very odd and not pleasant... shrug.gif
Hail concealer! smile.gif)

omg, accutane clears blackheads?????????

but you can't get prescribed for that surely?

i use pore strips, i steam my face first. i think they probably fuck up my skin but my blacheads are so severe i just can't help using them!

i found one brand strip that s quite strong, it pulls out a lot but its very sticky!

I don't know if you can get prescribed accutane just for blackheads - if you ask that question on the accutane forum I'm sure there are loads of people who'll be able to give you more info.

Accutane does stop the oil production in your skin so I suppose no oil production = no clogged pores.

I know what its like with blackheads though - especially when you have so many its hard to find a nice clear bit of skin on your face?!

Just be careful with those pore strips xxx

Ive been using the Bore Pore Strips for years... They really work well - and I see millions of tiny blackheads after pulling em off. BUT the results, (like already stated somewhere on here) are short lived, It might make your nose completely blackhead free for a couple days but usually they end up coming back pretty quickly.. But for a quick and short term treatment I deff think it gets the job done.

for like, a couple of hours... afterwards the holes go black.

I am going to do one tonight, but i think they mess up the skin on your nose
