I get these red, raised, hard, patches of skin on my arms and face. They appear randomly, and are sometimes itchy. If you look closely at the picture, there is a red outer rim, them a lighter area and then at the center a red spot. I'm going crazy. I want to know what it is. Any ideas? Please help.

Thanks for your replies. Yes, it's itchy, and feels like a bad burn that won't go away. A derm prescribed cortisone pills one month ago. It didn't help. When I called him to say that the spots are still there, he said just to put over-the-counter cortisone cream. It doesn't help either. If the pills didn't help, why did he think the cream would? Aghrrrrrr... Also, cortisone makes me breakout worse.

Did you take the cortisone pills as directed for the full duration of the course? If so, on to the next suggestion.

Next suggestion: by process of elimination determine what you might be subjecting your body to that it dislikes so much. It could be your moisturizer, a laundry detergent, a perfume, etc.

Next suggestion: it might actually be an infection. You'd be benefited by going to a doctor for a definitive diagnosis, possibly a second opinion, and further treatment options.
