B5 works pretty well for me but i still have occasional breakouts. I am 17 and the thought of using 10g every day for a few more years is very annoying. I know that my acne will be around for a while since my mom still occasionally breaks out. I was thinking i should just stop using B5 and go to a dermatologist and ask for accutane. Without B5 my acne is moderate but very persistent, with lots of remarks, and my skin is really oily. So i need advice whether to continue on B5 for at least 3 years(maybe more) or just stop B5, wait for my acne to get bad and then go beg a dermatologist for accutane. I really don't know what to do, I have never been to a derm but i know my parents would take me if i asked. I really need some advice!

Definitely the derm hands down. You don't want to subject yourself to B5 for that long. Though accutane is not without it's side effects either. But I would go with accutane due to just more being known about it.

I say just go see a dermatologist. If you do get accutane, there is a possibility of getting cured which is what you really want isn't it? Its ok to be on accutane for moderate acne I am on it right now.
I personally do not like self-medication which many people are doing on this board with B5 and fish oils. I find it quite dangerous especially with the high doses that you need to take. Should anything happens, there is no one you can put the blame on but yourself. But with accutane or other drugs prescribe by a certified derm, you at least know your condition and progress is being monitored.

Though accutane is not without it's side effects either.
Saying he has mild-moderate he'll likely be giving a small dosage (10-20mg/day) which brings about minimal side effects. Most of the horror stories you hear about that drug occur with 40-60mg dosages.
Through articles I've read and people I've seen throughout this forum with mild-moderate acne who are prescribed accutane, the results are very positive. If you're able to, go for it.
