I have never used an ivory bar before but I have to say salicylic acid helped me a whole lot less than Benzoyl Peroxide did. It might not be bad for your skin though.

You ought to read this thread: http://www.acne.org/messageboard/Why-skin-...nt-t144725.html

Ivory soap has a high pH, about 9.5 according to http://waltonfeed.com/old/soap/soaplit.html. Basically, you'll be damaging your skin's acid mantle, making your skin more likely to become damaged and thus possibly worsening your acne. I would recommend a liquid cleanser (the Target knockoff of Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser for Normal-to-Oily Skin is pretty nice). LabGirl81 used Ivory soap for a while on a bet with a coworker and experienced the irritation and no decrease in oiliness: http://www.acne.org/messageboard/index.php...p;#entry1823089

I do, and I personally love Purpose Bar. Dermatologist's recommend it and it is gentle. There are some days when it is humid and sticky and my face is an oily mess, that Purpose bar is the only thing I will use. Especially in the summertime, I often use it.
It is one of the highest rated cleansers on the Acne.org Product Reviews, http://www.acne.org/purpose-gentle-cleansi...ws/6/page1.html
and it gets high ratings on Drugstore.com as well.

I have never used Ivory though.

Purpose can be found in drugstores, and probably, but I've never tried it, in stores like Target, Kmart and such. It's in the facial soap section. In the 2 local CVSs I frequent, it's located with all the specialty, gentle, non-fancy soaps, like for eczema and rosacea. At these CVSs, that happens to be on the lower shelves underneath all the fancy big-brand soaps.
