Seeing how my daughter has gone from mild acne to moderate in about 1 month I wonder if her derm might put her on antibiotics. Her acne seems to be spreading like wild fire. Wouldn't this seem like a bacterial thing since it is spreading so fast.

If her acne is mostly noninflamed, antibiotics won't do very much. If she is getting more inflamed pustules, cysts, etc, then antibiotics can help. I think they can be good for helping to get inflamed acne under control, but should be used with topical acne treatments and not used for a long period of time. For most people, a proper topical regimen, without antibiotics, can keep them clear.

There are a number of downsides of antibiotics. Most of them cause major sun sensitivity, and it sounds like your daughter likes to spend a lot of time outdoors. She'd be more at risk of getting bad sunburns on antibiotics. Also, it only controls the problem for as long as she is on them, once she went off the drugs the acne would probably come right back. Plus, the acne bacteria can become resistent to antibiotics, which means the drugs often stop working for people after they have been using them for awhile. Plus, antibiotics kill other, "good" bacteria in the body too, which can have unwanted side effects.
