hey, im 16 years old and weigh 10 stone and im average height, ive been on roaccutane for 97 days, when i started the course my acne was moderate and was on my cheeks with a little bit on my forehead, i started on 40mg a day for the first two months, at the end of the first two months just before i went to see my derm, i had no active spots just red marks and my face was smooth, from that point i thought nice one just two months of these red marks going, my derm put me on 60mg a day the remaining 2 months, 4-5 days on 60mg i had gone 10000 steps back, 10 times worse than my IB (which was bad) and now my acne is about the same when i started, only positive is i have no black heads on my nose, and its been the same for the past 3 weeks nothing changed no improvement, So will my acne be clear in 23 days? (end of course) also what can i do about muscle pains, before it was joint and bone pain which i could deal with but now theres a sharp shooting pain in my left leg every time i run i think its my nerves??

judge for your self, this is on day 97, but is very similer to day 1, i see proples logs on here, some have acne alot worse than me yet by the time they get to day 100 its mostly clear.

this may be WAY off...but I was told that at such a young age (when... you know... you havnt fully passed puberty and such which is like 21 for a guy i think) accutane is less likely to be as successful. In other words...other peoples may be working better because other things arent going on in their body as much as yours... as a girl I'm explaining this BADLY...but I was told to wait until I'd passed their typical puberty age of 18 to give accutane a better chance to work (I got it as soon as i turned 18)

Having said that...a lot of people do break out this late on..and a lot of peoples skin doesnt improve drastically until after the course is finished. Theres still hope!

Hey,ya i am 15 years old,i am on month 4,I see little improvement in my acne, even though i have very mild redness and 3-4 dim spots. All i can say is that from what i read most people clear up 90pct by month 4 and 100pct by month 5.Some people also start AFTER the treatment.

hey man, give it time. after the course if its still not improved their is loads of other things you could try.

Have you considered a really strict diet such as the candida one? This is eliminating wheat, dairy, sugar and processed foods for a while and then taking supplements to kill the growth in your gut. This has helped alot of people with acne thats resistant.

Also those pains can definiatley be your nerves. I used to have that alot but it went away after a while.

Make sure you're consuming fat before / with your meals to aid absorption. Also wear sunscreen to prevent skin damage so as not to undo what the 'tane is repairing. I was also told by my derm that Vit E aids absorption. I take it just at night, don't remember if it was per their recommendation or not (400IU), 2-4gms of fish oil tablets per day, also for absorption and because it may be some form of concentrated fatt acid?

thanks for the replies, ive got a appointment with a physio-therapist next week about my upper leg which i think is to do with my nerves, what will they do? an injection? any way i dont think i could keep to a strict diet i know i wouldn't stick to it, im on day 101, so ive got 19 days left on my treatment and i really don't want to go on a second course, just hoping all the active spots just go away, ain't that bothered about red marks for the time being, also im going egypt in 40 days, realy worried about my sun exposure will suncream be enough?

Thanks for the tips janeir, should i take vit e with the tane? or a little bit after or before?

Also i think the fact i have eczema is slowing the process down, had it since i was a baby and had naturally dry skin and lips so even before i was on tane i was applying the lip balm 6-7 times a day and moisturizing with my diprobase cream 3 times a day.

Take the Vit E with 'tane. Can barely remember to take all the pills more than 2x a day as it stands! smile.gif

Don't know much about eczema, but some moisturizers are better than others. For lips, Aquaphor seems to be a favorite here, and I know "spiking" any body moisturizer with a little bit of olive oil makes it work a little better. I generally do this in the winter, especially when the skin dries quickly after a shower and it's harder to smooth lotion over your body. Olive oil makes it slide around nicer and then it all absorbs into the skin. I just switched again from Lubriderm oats (green pump) to Lubriderm Shea butter (orange pump) and the latter definitely works much better.

okay so its now day 121, i had an appointment with my derm yesterday and i told her about my leg pains, she said it happens to about 15% of people who are on tane some part of there body in my case my leg gets extremely painful after exercise and it isn't known why, i asked what i could do about it as im already on an intensive pain killer dicloflex, she recommended taking a 2 week break and reducing my dosage back to 40mg, as i didn't experience the pains on 40mg, she said ive had a few cases like yours and normally a break of tane would stop the pains, so im on another 2 months on tane on 40mg with a 2 week break, How long can i be on tane for, 7,8,9 months??, i always thought 6 month was the max otherwise the side effects could become permanent, any way im going to egypt on the 3rd so i thought thats when i wil take my break, what do you think? is it worth taking a break or will nothing happen as a result. Also my face is getting better i have only got one active spot, so its jus the red marks that need to go.

If you want to take a break because of the sun then it's gonna be useless, as accutane stays in your body for quite a long time before disapearing, thus your skin will still be quite sensitive and prone to sun burns.

It certainly couldn't hurt to go off for 2 weeks. Really could help ya feel better. Are you taking fish oil ? That really seems to help with the joint pains etc. Good luck to ya and keep at it one day normal skin will be ours lol.

on a serious note, well, actually i have nothing to contribute as you have been on it even longer than i have. all i can say is wait it out, that's why these treatments are 5-6 months cause that's usually how long it takes to even work. you still have time.

Hey man; im 2 weeks post tane and my red marks have faded heaps.

Also, 6 months isnt the max, i was on for 11! but on a relativly low dose. I know becuase you're young it can be hard, but if you need a couple of extra months its not the end of the world!

Good luck there man.
