My history with acne treatment has been extensive...I have mild to moderate acne since around 16 with no signs of relenting...upon the days where I first started to notice and care about my acne I bought clearisil with benzoyl peroxide...I began using it regularly and it worked even dans gel works great for me...however the clearing is short lived as my skin recycles into breakouts...salicylic acid, sulfur, antibiotics, retin a and even azalex have failed ...I spoke to my doctor about 2 years ago about accutane but it wasn't bad enough to constitute it being used for me...they put me on retin a which caused pigmented scars that I am still trying to get rid of...it's upsetting and devastating to me...I hide from those who wish to get to know me...I limit my social stuff...I don't accept dates ever since then...my acne is moderate now showing signs of little clearing and I do not wish to wait all summer for it to clear...I feel my life passing me by day by day growing ever more desperate and willing to do anything it takes to stop the pain of this...and that's what accutane can do for me...I do not care about the side effects of the drug and I am uninterested I would rather look good, feel confident and outgoing than be a healthy shut in any day of the week...Dermatologists seem reluctant to perscribe it...2 docs ive been to have said no...but in their professional opinion keeping me on useless antibiotics seems smart to them...So this is it...I want answers I want someone to help me out...No feeble suggestions...no warning labels...no "there are safer treatments" when in reality it's just a gimmick or a goose chase that leads to more years going by...No hoops no jumps...If someone can help me get a perscription of accutane I will be forever grateful for it...If you are wanting to caution me...save the buckets of energy for something else because like I said "I'm not interested" at this rate all the side effects such as depression etc won't mean anything because I may not be able to take this much longer...it's too heartbreaking for me if that means I have to poison myself with high doses of vitamin a ill do it because im tired of my life passing me by...Will someone help me?

I took accutane for mild (with moderate flares from time to time) but persistent acne. My derm was great. He recommended it to me at my first appt with him. It took me a year to become comfortable with the idea of taking it (heard too many horror stories).

I've been clear for the past 7 months, and off of tane for 4 months. I'm using TriLuma cream (prescription) to fade the sun damage, ad dark marks from acne scars.

I found my derm by doing a google search for derms in my area. I found his website and liked what I read. He's is fabulous. The best thing to do is find derms, call their offices and ask about their attitude toward accutane. Some drs are reluctant to prescribe it. My derm is not.

Good luck!

I know your pain SeaPrince10! I was on topicals/antibiotics for at least 6 years..and as you said, all of the clearing was short lived..I just started Accutane, only 3 days in..A few years ago my derm said he never would have prescribed it for me, since my acne is mild..But since Ive tried practically everything in the book, he prescribed it to me..I think at your next appt just tell your derm youre sick of things not working and want to finish this off totally..Good luck!!! I really really really know what youre going through, it sucks..I really hope you can get on Tane, hopefully things will work out =)

My dermatologist hasn't given me anything that actually works yet... Should I just go to a different doctor now or something?

Here we are, alas an update...I went to the doctor today and she told me that she couldn't perscribe accutane because only dermatologists could do that...By the way I think dermatologists at least most are mentally retarded...So anyways I'm back on square 1...I know of a derm I can see in July or August...But I do not know if they will perscribe it for me...So here we go...I'll tell you all my "master plan"...here we go now!

The Master Plan

*** I will continue to use DKR regimen since that can clear me up completely before I start breaking out again and things look shitty again

*** About 2 weeks before my appointment I will make my acne incredibly bad looking so I have a greater chance...I don't wish to do this but I may have to....

*** I will book several appointments so if I get shit from one I will attend the next one and if successful in acquiring the drug I will cancel the other ones...

Feedback is always helpful

I also have mild-moderate persistent acne. I had acne since 14 and I am now already 20. I have also had extensive acne treatment with my previous derm. The only thing that worked out for me was doxycycline that sustained for 5 years. After that I just broke out like there was no tomorrow. My derm refuses to give me accutane also. Fed up that she doesn't gurantee results, I switched to a derm that I saw on television. This new derm also didn't give me accutane first, she said to try the contraceptibe dianette first. It didn't work out as well and made me broke out real bad that she handed me accutane without me asking for it. This new derm promised results within a month and I have now seen it. I am clear now.

Its not hard to find a derm that can prescribe accutane. What I did was tell her that I was sick and tired having acne for 6 years and I want results before I go back to college in august. Just tell the derm that you have had enough of everything, I think he/she will give you accutane.

I don't really agree with you on your master plan. Please don't make your acne worse just to get accutane, it will cause you more grief but not the doctor and you can't be sure he will defintely give you accutane. I suggest before going to a derm, ask the people in school or work around you that which derm is most likely to prescribe accutane. You will defintely find one that will prescribe you the drug. The first and the 3rd line of your master plan is good.

Where do you live by the way? If you live in the States or UK, there's that IPledge thing that makes you wait 30 days to get accutane. If you live elsewhere, I think there's no IPledge. There's no Ipledge in Singapore, my derm was able to hand me accutane immediately.

I live in Richmond Virginia in the US there aren't too many dermatologists here. I'm debating on who to make an appointment with. There are even sites that sell accutane online, it's dangerous without the blood work but I really wanna go on dates this summer and I wanna look perfect for them so I need to saddle up soon you know?
