ok so he perscribed me too retin A and said get Oxy pads for my acne...its been a long time about a year and my acne has gotten much better...but i realise every time i use an oxy pad(0.5% salycilic acid) my pimples get more red, is this a good thing indicating the pads are doing there work or does this mean it is irritating my face...ive been using them for so long so i dont know if they have been holding me back with the retin A or if it has been helping me so im kinda worried to stop using them...thanks for your help smile.gif

Did he tell you that get oxy pads ?

That's weird.

b/c when you are on the prescription, you use unmedicated gentle liquid cleanser such as cetaphill..

Hmm...

really...honestly i dont even think my doctor really knew what he was dooing other then just giving me the retin A since it is famous for ridding acne, all he kept saying was no accutane lol...but he did say the first day i saw him to get these oxy pads, seems like he likes them lol...i also think ive healed from my acne as it was bound to happen because out of 6 people in my family all of them were completely clear except for me which i guesss results in my acne being not that serious

But neways, should i continue to use the pads?? or no...

Thank u biggrin.gif

The salicylic is a very mild strength, but the other ingredients in the pads could be causing the redness. Does the redness fade quickly? If it does, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I'm using a topical retinoid and a salicylic acid product, too. The retinoid isn't anywhere near as strong as Retin A, but the SA is 2%. I peel nicely. tongue.gif I did want the peeling to occur as that shows me that I will lose a few tiny little wrinkles I am annoyed with. I'm just about 40 years old.

Are you using the Retin A cream, gel, or liquid? I hope the liquid or the gel, as the cream can sometimes cause clogged pores and thus acne.

The salicylic acid works as a chemical exfoliant, and it also works within the pore. It's a good product.

If you are worried that the pads are holding you back from completely clearing, you could
1. Ask your doc for suggestions
2. Stop using them on your own for a little while (two plus weeks) to see if your skin either improves or gets worse. Then you'd have your answer.

Everyone's skin is different, so what works for one might not work for another. If your skin is really oily, both products likely benefit you together. Retin A can sometimes cause some people to feel that their skin feels more oily. SA (Salicylic acid) can sometimes make people feel that their skin is less oily.

I would not say that your dermatologist was wrong to say "no accutane". Remember, accutane is regarded as a last resort medication. Your derm is just making sure that there are no more options before starting you on accutane. Typically it goes from a primary topical>secondary topical>primary antibiotic>secondary antibiotic>combination treatments>Accuane.

If you still feel that your dermatologist was wrong you can always get a second opinion.

umm im not mad he said no accutane im jsut stating he said that as he though my acne wasent severe enough for me to go on it...well neways back to the other reply i am using the cream and have been using it for some time so i doubt i am going to switch to the liquid, my doctor perscribed the cream so i dont know lol...my skin is quiet oily and i usually use the pads to remove oil around midday, i find it refreshing lol, and the redness does goes away in a bit thats why im not that worried just wondering

the retin A i believe has worked well for me and i use a salycilic wash that works with the pads (an oxy product as well) so thats why i dont really want to stop using the pads
