help! i got a chemical peel two days ago and my face is so red and tight, it hurts so bad. there's no irritation that wasn't expected but i just need some advice:
-how can i stop the peeling around my mouth from peeling too early. some of it peeled already and the new skin looks shiny and raw.. it's really tight and dry.
-how to wash my face. should i not wash my face in the shower? cold water only? it seems washing my face causes it to dry up and peel.
-a good moisturizer? i'm using aloe vera gel right now but when i put it on, it burns so much it f n hurts.
i'm just waiting for the redness and tightness to go away.. it should stop soon, i hope. it hurts to smile, it hurts to eat.. seriously, if there is little to no results, i'm not gonna do this again. the derm said people return to work during this time; i can't even sit at home and be fine.
the end of my whining. any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks.

I've never had a peel (yet!) but I've researched the crap out of TCA peels a few months ago and from what I gather, don't pick at the skin no matter how much it's dangling off just let it fall off on it's own. Also avoid washing your face as much as possible. As for the moisturizer I never use one anyway so I don't know, sorry hope I helped a little

Hello! This question has recently come up. LionQueen has recommended this company's products and I have looked at their after care instructions. They recommend:
From: Platinum Skin Care
So maintain the moisture. They recommend not resuming your normal skin care regimen until after two weeks, to allow proper healing and prevent damage to your fresh skin. Also, wear a sunblock. Sun could damage the freshly forming skin and cause pigmentation problems.
And to answer your questions:
-how can i stop the peeling around my mouth from peeling too early. some of it peeled already and the new skin looks shiny and raw.. it's really tight and dry.
Apply the antibiotic ointment or cream to maintain moisture.
-how to wash my face. should i not wash my face in the shower? cold water only? it seems washing my face causes it to dry up and peel.
Wash it normally twice a day with your regular gentle cleanser. Don't scrub.
-a good moisturizer? i'm using aloe vera gel right now but when i put it on, it burns so much it f n hurts
I myself love emu oil; some people like jojoba oil. Aloe vera straight can burn. It is best mixed with a bit of your moisturizer. You could try emu oil mixed with copper peptides, or jojoba oil (one drop) mixed with copper peptides cream, or if you have LOTS of money, ReVive Moisture Renewal Cream. It has EGF, or epidermal growth factor. There ARE other brands that have EGF, but I read about its benefits in Femina Est Mala's (hope I got his name right)TCA CROSS thread. He had exceptional results with the Revive cream. Others do have good luck with copper peptides. I am one of those people. The copper serum I'm using has not caused me to break out. It is a serum, a little goes a very long way. A tiny drop for each spot, I massage it in. I've also starting using Green Cream level 6. I will be doing another TCA CROSS soon.

If your skin has frosted (turned white), which is not very likely using the 12.5% solution, your skin will return to its normal color in 15 to 45 minutes. Your skin should be covered with an oil-based ointment (such as Emu oil and Copper Peptide), or Bacitracin (or other comparable ointment) to keep your skin moist and promote healing. You may have slight swelling (only with the 20-30%% solution) which will go away in a day or two.

You will wash your face twice daily with a gentle cleanser and apply a moisturizing ointment (as mentioned above). With a high % of TCA, your face will initially appear red. Within a few days, your stratum corneum (outermost layers of skin) will turn darker, and prepare to peel. The flaking is usually complete in four to seven days. Once your skin has finished peeling, you may begin wearing makeup. You should resume skin care within two weeks of your procedure. Any post "flushed" appearance will fade slowly over several weeks.

Didn't they give you aftercare information? Where did you have this done (salon, derm's office?).
The Aveeno brand "Ultra Calming" line (cleanser, lotion, cream) works really well. I used it while on accutane.
