What's a good way to apply toner? It says I have to clean my face before use it. Does that mean I have to use soap to wash my face? Or just apply water to my face? And how much should I apply to a cotton ball? Do I just barely moist my face with it or do I apply so I can see liquid running down my face?
And I am using Biore Triple Action.
Applying Toner?

I still trying to figure out whether a toner is necessary. Anyone?
Whenever I use one my face is so flushed and irritated.

Mine gets red a little bit, especially on the acne parts.
But after 10 minutes the skin looks normal again. Is that normal?

No, a toner should not be the least bit irritating at all. Almost like putting water on your face.
When putting on a toner, just barely put some on a cotton ball, enough to run all over your face.
oh, and i forgot to mention that if you have an open sore, THEN it might sting a little.

What's a toner do anyway?
Which toners do not irritate?
I feel like I'm missing something in my regimen, maybe a toner is it.

A toner just removes that last bit of makeup, residue etc. on your skin. [or at keat thats how i understand it]. Whenever you buy a toner just make sure that it contains alcohol. I make my own [half ACV/half water] or buy this one.

You are giving wrong advice here! A toner should never contain alcohol. Most toners do contain alcohol giving the user the soothing effect which is actually irritating the skin. Alcohol is a very irritating ingredient and is at the top of SnowQueen's list of irritants. When buying products make sure that it contains none of what is stated in this thread.

A toner actually helps removes any impurities that are not cleansed off by the cleanser. If you can find a good toner, it actually has hydrating effects which means you don't have to apply moisturizer because moisturizers can sometimes clog pores. A toner also shouldn't leave your face feeling red, it must be like putting water on your skin. If it does get red, something is irritating your skin. Apply toner using cotton pads, dab it all over your face and don't rub.
I have sensitive and oily skin and its hard to find products for me because I often breakout. ACV was way too irritating for me, it gave me a lot of flakes. I use this toner

It has little ingredients and nothing irritating or comedogenic.

I've heard that using cotton balls and squares are actually not efficient since most of the product gets soaked into the cotton; my mom suggested I fill a spray bottle with toner and spray onto my face and let dry. I think it works a lot better that way, too.

Yeah, the cotton squares are apparently less absorbant than the cotton balls, though. But I use a spray bottle to put my toner in as well.
Toners pick up remaining residue and can also cleanse, soothe, etc.
Since using two cotton pads a day is so wasteful but you feel you have residue leftover on your face, just take some time to rinse well. It should take you twice the time to rinse as it does to wash your face. And then you can just spray on the toner to refresh/soothe/cleanse/whatever. I make my own toner with organic green (golden) tea and then I add in a bit of rosewater. It smells really good. I'll sometimes use it as a body mist as well
However, my Mom says it smells like an old lady's house.
It's just a floral scent.
