Well let this be your first time then.. I did a full 6 month course of accutane, with a cumulative dose of around 140mg/kg. My acne has not cleared and I am still breaking out. Accutane did not work for me. It was a waste of time and not worth putting myself through the side effects. I have heard other people round here saying it didn't work for them either, and also people saying that it just made their skin worse. People seem to have the idea that it has 100% success rate or something, it obviously doesn't and it can not work for people.

Yes I always take it with food. And I've read that when you have reached a cumulative dose of around 120mg/kg you don't get better. And I've passed that already. So I guess accutane was the biggest mistake of my life. Can't understand that they have legal rights to sell the shit. Isn't there any law saying that the pharmacies must not sell medication that has no proved effect for it's purpose? And if it's even making things worse...

What do you mean "no proved effect"???? Are you nuts? Haven't you heard all of the success stories? Haven't you seen the statistics? I'm a bit discouraged right now myself, but I'm only less than a week into my second month and I would never dare say Accutane hasn't been proved to work. Maybe it didn't work on you - but - let's face it, YOU are only ONE person.

that 120mg thing is wrong, it's not that you don't get better after that. that is just the target cumulative dose. your skin continues to clear for two months after you stop the drug, and some people just need to take it longer than others, some need 2 courses too. as for "no proved effect" accutane definitely has been proven to work on the vast majority of people who use it, almost everyone actually.

Could you please give us more information on this and what the swab test is all about?
I'd really like to look into this further.
I'd appreciate if you could post some more information and details.
Thank you very much.

Dude, my sympathy for it's lack of effect on you, but you are one person. shut your damn mouth. 6 months + 9 days post no complaints. minor zits. if i have to go on it again I'm sure it would knock it out for good.

Hey man, well basically i had sycosis barbae (spelling) which is a staph infection of the skin. There are many different forms of folliculitus. Fungal, gram negative bacteria/gram positive bacteria.
I would say if you have been on accutane it is unlikely to be gram negative altho it's still possible. If you noticed your condition to flare up suddenly over night from antibiotics or a change in medication then you need to get your derm to do a swab tests. It's actually known as a culture and sensitivity test, where by the bacteria or fungus is grown to establish what type of infection you have. After that's done the path lab will then tell your dermo what antibiotic will best target the infection!!!

Have you gone for hormone tests as well?
Thanks for the info, even though I'm starting another course of accutane this month, I'm going to give this a shot just to see.
I doubt this is what I have though, because I do get small pimples under my beard even when I don't shave. The facial hair certainly does not help though and it seems to be the main area of activity for pimples and blemishes. In fact, my forehead, neck and upper cheeks above the hairline are almost 100% clear. I'll do the test anyway just to be thorough as something else informative might come from it.
Thanks again.

That sounds just like my case.... I suddenly though to myself, hold on i haven't had a spot aywhere other than below my cheekline in ages, Plus i had a goaty that had been there for a year (which never had spots in either) so i knew it was some kind of filiculitus of the beard area and demanded the dermo did a test....I grew a beard whilst i was waiting for the results and sure enough every single 'spot' was at the base of a hair, as soon as i started my ten day course of antibiotics i haven't had a blemish since.
