Hey all,

I have a question. I always had acne since the age of 13 or so. I am now 24 and I still have break outs - sometimes bad, sometimes just a bit. I really dont know whats causing my acne. I do believe its my hormones and not what I am eating. I dont have stress either so I keep searching for the best solution for my skin.

Anyways, about 8 months ago my doc recommended me to use Cyproteronacetaat/Ethinylestradiol .... its sort of the same as the Diane pill, so its supposed to control your hormones. Now, it really worked and after about 2 months, I had less pimples and I felt great. Now, since about 2 months my acne is getting worse again. I have been to the doc again ( another one) and she said, that its not possible that the pill ist working anymore. I should keep taking it.

Has any of you experienced this as well ? Can the pill lose its effect ?

I am now using Normaderm from Vichy. I have only started 4 days ago and I truly hope it will help me at least a bit. I have tried so many things over the years and nothing helped and sometimes I just want to give up sad.gif

Hugs

J

I haven't been on that specific pill but I've learned the pill can be tricky hormone wise. You body has hormone shifts so I guess what works during one period of time won;t work during another...Like me for instance. I took OTC in my early 20's (23/24) and my skin was flawless. I don't recall getting a single pimple in all the time I was on it. Then I got off and went back on for a short time when I was 28 and my skin EXPLODED on my chin/jawline/lower cheek area.

I know for OTC I was told it took about 6 months to see the full effect skinwise..maybe you should wait it out that long. If you just have hormonal acne there's other things you can try - I had hormonal acne and I have a really good routine that keeps it under control.

Yeah the same thing happened to me Ami. A couple of years ago I took Yasmin and it really controlled my breakouts and I had very mild acne. Ten months later I broke out in terrible acne from what I believe is a harsh Aveeno product I used (one of the biggest mistakes Ive made) and I went back on the Yasmin pill. It didnt work this time and I broke out horribly still

It's different for everyone ... at age 17, I had moderate acne and tried the usual antibiotics courses and early-stage topical stuff and it didn't work. Then my doc put me on OTC to try to control irregular cycles and simultaneously combat my acne. My skin EXPLODED into cystic acne, and NOTHING got rid of it except Accutane. To this day, of every pill I've been on (OTC, Alesse, Ovcon-35, Yasmin, Lo/Ovral, Mircette), nothing helps or hurts my skin in the least ... I finally came off the Pill for the first time 2 months ago to see if my skin would benefit ... Nope ... apparently my skin always looks the same whether i'm on a Pill or off it.

Some people are lucky enough to find a pill that controls their acne ... some people might need to try a few different pills before they are able to do that. I am neigher of those people! eusa_wall.gif

Yea my experience with birth control sucked. I tried Yasmin and it started to clear me up in the first couple of weeks and then it just went downhill from there and i broke out in cystic acne all along my chin and jawline, painful stuff. I've been off of it for almost a month and taking fish oil & evening primrose oil and that has helped me WAY more to keep the hormones and oil at bay. Give that a try, you should notice some results within 2 weeks and real improvement is said to take 3-6 months (just like everything else). Make sure you work up to 3 grams of fish oil though because you don't really notice anything if you take less than that. And its very safe too biggrin.gif
