Firstly I'm 22 and have had acne since about 6th grade, as I get older it's getting more severe. Reading around the forum I came across some mention of acne and nodules/cysts around the jawline being hormonal acne. This seems to be the main area I have problems with, the acne goes more along the outer borders of my face and spreads a bit into the cheek area. I was thinking it's just from resting my head on my hand a lot. Occassionally I'll get a deep cyst right in the middle/front of my cheek but I seem to get it a lot on my jaw and even on my neck past the jawline (the ones on my neck are more nodules, I don't think I've seen puss). I also get lots of papules that usually turn into pustules after a few days..lot of red and inflammation.

Currently I'm on day 6 of using tetracycline (2x250mg) and vitamin A acid cream (tretinoin 0.05%). My dermatologist says that the problem with my acne is it will leave scars that affect how I look the rest of my life, he was quick to mention Accutane (also because I get it on my back and shoulders too) but I'm planning a trip abroad and therefore won't be around to for monitoring..so what I mentioned is what he prescribed. I'm also on Alesse for 1.5 months now, I think that it helped initially but went back to 'normal' (Derm says that takes a few weeks/months to really work though). Also I do notice that it tends to get better and then I'll start breaking out really bad again, including those deep painful ones. I always thought it was just whatever I was using worked for awhile but then I got resistant to it or something...but maybe those were times of ovulation? I'm actually about at that time now and my face is flared up pretty good but I don't know how much is my 'normal' breakout and how much is from the cream bringing everything up to the surface. Guess we'll see how it goes, mostly I just want to get rid of these really raised bumps as their hard to hide and really red..as well as leaving lasting red spots. I'll be happy with that until I can start Accutane lol.

Well I'm not sure if that's what I have, just someone mentioning the jawline perked my interest...anyway I did read it and might try some things, I'm already taking/applying a lot of stuff so I might wait to see how this goes first, though the Aleve bit is interesting.

Read a bunch on the 'do nothing' approach. After suffering for years with acne, i finally took this step, and although my skin is not clear, it has DRASTICALLY improved in only a month and a half. My skin is pure shit, but the breakouts are nearly non existent, when i do get them - only minor whiteheads and not painful inflamed zits or lumps, my skin looks and feels 10x better, its less oily, its less dry, its less red.

I have the same problem with breakouts along my jawline. After 53 days on the regimen I am finally seeing a drastic improvement. Its been alot of up and down though. You can see what my regimen is below in my signature. My breakouts are worse during my cycle. I just got done with my cycle so I am hoping that by next month the breakout will be minimal. Lorrie
