Hi all,
I'm 27 and 4 months pregnant. I had severe acne from age 18 to 25 and finally tried Accutane, after hundreds of other treatments (both prescription and OTC) failed. I had excellent results and have been acne free for a year and a half. I recently found out I was pregnant, though, and the acne has come back full force! I went from clear back to awful again in just a matter of weeks. Does anyone know about this? Can pregnancy reverse Accutane's effects? I can't seem to find ANY info about this anywhere.
Thanks,
Katherine

The acne you are experiencing is due to your elevated levels of progesterone. It increases your oil production and causes irritation in the pores. Your skin you go back to normal after your pregnancy if not before you deliver. I have known people who have had to go back on a second course after breastfeeding has ceased. I know that sux to hear, but I hope the info helps. My acne got a bit worse when I first got pregnant and started to get better right before my miscarriage. So even though its annoying and frustrating to get the acne back take it as a good sign your hormones are on the right track.

i dont think it reverses the effects as such, but your acne has just come back as a result of changing hormones and possibly being clear for a while,it has just returned as it does after tane for alot of people anyway.
it may settle down again soon,i have acne too 13 years and when i was pregnant nothing happend to my skin, although i wasnt pregnant long enough to see if it would return.
some peoples skin gets better in pregnancy, some worse, some stay the same.
im not sure what your options are in terms of treatment whilst pregnant, have you sought advice?

also i see your a new member, welcome. and congratulations on your pregnancy.

yYah, i'd agree with kel, i don't think it reverses trhe effects but being pregnant does a number on your body/hormones/emotions - I think a lot of women break out the first trimester and then it sort of evens out while others have horrible acne or no acne during the pregnancy. Just remember to not use any topicals at all on your face since it's not good for baby. The only one I can think of that is same is Clyndamicin (I used it) but it doesn;t work at all.
Congratulations by the way!

Thank you, everyone! I appreciate your answers. I haven't seen my dermatologist since the last month I was on Accutane in 05. My OB doesn't seem to think the acne is a big deal (he has NO idea) so I guess I'll just ride it out.
Thank you again!

The following helped both a friend and myself during our pregancies: Egg yolk facial. Crack an egg, and place the yolk on your face for 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. The egg yolk is rich in vitamin A, and it is a simple treatment safe to use during pregnancy.

It's cheap and easy. Good luck, and best wishes for a healthy pregancy and happy baby. If this is your first, check out the book "Secrets of the Baby Whisperer" by Tracy Hogg.
