after almost two years clear (post tane) my acne has started to return and great timing as i get married in october!
i really am torn on what to do,go to gp,wait 5 months for referral to dermatologist? go private,i have no idea how much that will cost!
i dont think alternative health will help me,plus im not sure if im not just being ripped off completly!
my skin care consists of neutrogena oil free wash and moisteriser.
i really dont want to be a spotty bride! wacko.gif

Antibiotics may be helpful. I don't like antibiotics for long term acne treatment, but if you have a fairly short term goal (e.g. a wedding in a few months), they may be just the thing.

oh, do be careful. If you currently have active acne, microdermabrasion could very well make it worse.

I dont usually recommend Green Cream because its so expensive but in a crunch it might be worth the money to you. Its a retinol and very potent and you must use it with care. Mandelic Acid is another option. Same precautions as above.

Try not to stress yourself out. Stress will make your breakouts worse. I know you dont think alternative medicine will help but it wouldnt hurt you to take Zinc and a multivitamin along with Fish Oil. Zinc works to heal the lesions faster. The multivitamin will help the Zinc to work better and help with any vitamin deficiencies that may be aggravating your acne. The Fish Oil is getting great reviews for helping with acne. I wish I could explain how it works but its over my head. I started taking it after reading about it and even it doesnt help with my acne, the other benefits of taking it is worth it.

You are already using 2 elements of the regimen. Why not try adding the BP and see what happens. You might be pleasantly surprised. Lorrie

I've haven't had a breakout this bad for a few years now so have been trying everyting on this site these past two weeks. The last few days I've tried aspirin and honey masks and I've seen a huge improvement. Obviously these aren't a cure for acne but then besides roaccutane what is, if this clears me up long enugh to work on my diet then I'm happy! I have had no new spots, my normal skin is the smoothest its ever been and is glowing to the extent that even with spots my skin has gottn compliments! It has taken the redness out of it and successfully treatd a cyst and its recovery.

Just in case its a combination of everything thats working: I use cetaphil to cleanse and a thin layer of sudocrem on problem areas. I am taking multivits, zinc and evening primrose oil but only for about 10 days so I doubt they're working yet.

Good luck and congrats!!

I would say go to a private dermatologist and get them to mechanically clear your pores. It shouldn't be expensive. I used to have a dermatologist who did this for me a couple times, and my face looked much better afterwards. They use a little tool to pop open clogged pores and zits which then tend to clear right up, and you don't have any risk of it making your face worse. I think you would do this in the weeks before your wedding.

In addition to that I would use a gentle regimen of BP to help prevent further outbreaks.

Just my two cents...I would spend a little money to get a low-risk solution at the derm since it would be my wedding which is a special ocassion.

Oh honey, I understand completely! I got married a year ago, and was battling adult acne during the months leading up to the big day. It was stressful, I really wanted to be clear on my wedding day (who wouldn't?), and I had many days of crying and wondering why me, why now?!!

I was a spotty bride, and honestly, it didn't ruin the day one bit! I waffled on how much makeup I should use to try and cover it up, and ultimately decided to not use any foundation or powder. I hate the feeling of coating on my skin, and figured I would be more bothered by that than wearing my spots for all to see. I dabbed on some eye makeup, and off I whisked, down the aisle to become a Mrs. I also toyed with the idea of adding to our vows "in sickness and in acne, " but thought that may be a bit much!

I was worried about the acne ruining my wedding pictures, but let me just say that I LOVE photoshop, and retouching is your friend! Can't see my acne AT ALL in the pics.

This is sort of a rambling post, but my point is, please don't let the threat of being a spotty bride ruin the months leading up to your wedding, and if your acne persists, don't let in ruin your big day. You are so much more than a few spots on your face, and you deserve to fully enjoy your wedding!

Many good thoughs to you,

TheMimi

how much will it cost to see a derm now? i think it might be worth it to " go private" and get on accutane asap. i'm not really sure how that works in the UK.

i think it's a good idea to go on differin with the duac, that seems to be a good combo, plus you can use the duac twice a day and it won't interfere with the differin, unlike with taz or retin a.

Lucky thing, I tried Duac for 4weeks to no avail - why would it work for some people - is your acne not that severe??? Just curious.
